3.0 out of 5 stars Bog standard, 11 Mar. 2015

This review is from: Room V (Audio CD)
Bog standard chugging American metal with a slight proggy element. Doubt I'll listen to it again to be honest. CEA Glover's review hits the nail (and the band and the genre) firmly on the head!

4.0 out of 5 stars Darker green than photo, but excellent quality., 19 Feb. 2015

Nice and warm, thick layered material, with room for my big head. But much darker green than the photo - so doesn't match the scarf I wanted it to. Almost a turquoise green in fact. But excellent quality for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blu-ray 5.1 mix is good but not great. Music 5* of course!, 14 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Fly By Night (Blu-ray Audio)
Review of Blu-ray audio version. 5 star music, which I've loved since getting the LP on release back in the mid-70s! The 5.1 mix is very good, but missing something compared to the earlier BDA releases of 2112 and Moving Pictures - both by Commercial Marketing and including a CD for a price lower than Pure Audio charge for the BD alone! There is less use of the surround channels here, and so the value of going 5.1 is reduced. However, it is still a world better than 2 channels! Another negative is the download via the Pure Audio website. I'm not all that into downloads, but IMHO this is a curious creature. The Rush website suggests this is a "320kbps MP4 vinyl ripped Digital Audio album download" and the file sizes are much large than simple wav rips from my CD. Yet the sound quality is quite poor and equivalent to mp3 rips - boomy bass with muffled sound through a decent system. Maybe it sounds better on a non HD portable device. Why not a high-res download for those who've paid the premium price for the BDA?

So... I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the BDA for anyone with a 5.1 system. But having had other slightly disappointing experiences with Pure Audio I do think they need to look at their approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Needed extension lead and f-plus to coax adaptor - then AOK, 11 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you don't have a screw-in socket on your radio/tuner you'll need an adaptor (£1.70 on Amazon). The aerial wouldn't work well (usual bubbling noises for a poor signal) if I placed it close to my hi-fi (and the included cable is quite short), but with the addition of an extension lead and placing it a couple of metres away the signal is fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Goosebumps, 10 Feb. 2015
2015 release of the quadrophonic mix DVD + CD. Haven't listened to this music since my cassette copy of my brother's LP died probably 25 years ago! Took a risk, half expecting to be disappointed in my nostalgia, but I needn't have worried. The quad mix gave me goosebumps at the excellence of the music and Rick's playing. Sound quality is not great - background rumble suggests the recording is lifted from vinyl or they left the air conditioning on whilst recording. But the music gets past that OK. Recommended to all who love proggy keyboards.

Very funny, especially if you know these actors in their 'serious' roles. Vincent Price hamming it up alongside Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre - great stuff!

If you have a Region 1/Multi-Region player you can get this and comedy of Terrors on one disk somewhat cheaper, but for Region 2 this is the one to get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight fit, but fine. Just watch the length and price!, 13 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought for a picture light similar to the one in the photos. Quite a fiddly job to fit them as they are quite long (measure your fitting!) but they do the job well, in fact better than the old type as the length means more width of the picture is illuminated. The headline description is wrong - they are 1.5 watts not 2. But the comparison on the packet says equal to 16W not 11W as on here. I've only just fitted them, so can't comment on the longevity, but I'm assuming at 15000 hours they'll last 4-6 years in regular use. Price was £3.63 each (I bought 4 to gain the free postage) - suddenly leapt to £20.58 each a few days later! I think they're a bargain at the lower price but wouldn't touch them at £20+.

If length is a problem, or price remains high, you could try these instead http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LXAA81C/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2G0WJTCG61H3S&coliid=IPC7HYWP2092D#productDetails - more powerful, but shorter.

Lehmann Audio Linear Headphone Amplifier for 16 to 600 Ohms Headphones 280 x 110 x 44 mm
Lehmann Audio Linear Headphone Amplifier for 16 to 600 Ohms Headphones 280 x 110 x 44 mm

5.0 out of 5 stars More improvement than significantly upgrading decent headphones, 30 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A significant improvement over the Graham Slee Novo (as it should be, considering the price differential) which I have been using until now, which itself was a reasonable improvement over the headphone socket on the 2 amps I tried my phones with. I bought Shure SRH 1540s phones at the same time, to replace AKG K550s, but would say the Lehmann was definitely the biggest improvement. The AKGs sounded superb with the Lehmann. The Shures are better, but I think I need to listen longer and allow them to run in for a while before deciding whether they were worth the outlay. That says something about how good the Lehmann is, that significantly cheaper phones can be improved to such a degree as to compete with the Shures.
