This review is from: The Book of Orm (Kindle Edition)
With this eclectic and punchy gathering of short stories, fantasy specialist A J Dalton invites the reader on to a whistle-stop tour of folk legend from Scandinavia and beyond. It's a veritable chorus of skillfully executed and precisely imagined voices, loosely bound by a thematic thread of misfits wrestling with the magical world they inhabit. And the variety of styles -- from the spooky and solemn narration of yesteryear right through to witty and knowing streams of consciousness -- is no worse off for its inclusion of two bonus pieces from Nadine West and Matt White. The former brings a dollop of flowing, poetic prose to the table; and the latter spins a beautiful and hilarious young-adult yarn about a wretched doormat of a kid you simply have to root for when her bully-related problems double at the hands of a nisse... a kind of anally retentive and manipulative miniature Father Christmas. It's a page turner, and a must read for anyone who doesn't think of a troll as an internet wind-up merchant... rather as a surprisingly articulate beast that refers to itself in the third person. A really easy and pleasant read.

This review is from: Respect for Acting (Hardcover)
First, it is not "by David Hyde Pierce" as claimed by the review-request email! (He wrote the intro.) It's by the late, great Uta Hagen -- acting teacher extroadinaire. The book has inspired pretty much every decent American actor that walked the earth so let it inspire you. Find out what method acting is REALLY about (it's not about larding up for a role, staying in character for 6 months or running around the block to get sweaty... it's really about find aspects of yourself you can blow up and use). Her exercises are great -- watch her video on Youtube with students doing them, and her straight but comforting critiques. The exercises alone inspired me to write a 30-minute piece for a local festival, telling a full story with one actor in one location -- talking to himself and on the phone. Uta was the actor's Jesus. Every actor should read this to really get a handle on what acting is, how an actor should think. And every so often you will ask yourself, "What would Uta do?".

1.0 out of 5 stars If you're buying for Iplayer, BEWARE, 16 Feb. 2011
The Iplayer software is crawling with problems. Users on Tiscali/Talk Talk, Virgin, 02/BE , among others , have been dogged by problems ranging from the Iplayer page not loading.. to buffering and freezing at random no matter how fast the connection. You can find out more on the Sony support forums. As these problems have been ongoing for many months while customers have been fobbed of with excuses and false promises, I would go for another brand for now - if Iplayer is a major reason for purchase. It's just not worth being one of the users left with an unuseable Iplayer interface with nobody caring or doing anything about it because you're not in the majority.

Ok quality for price but it barely fits.. holes a bit wonky.. covers up the proximity sensor so the screen locks up during call / alarm etc.. generally I would not recommend.
