5.0 out of 5 stars Bond Is Back and Blond, 19 Oct. 2007
Well poor old Daniel Craig, many had written him off as the worst Bond ever, before they had even seen him in a scene. Fortunately for him, he has proven them all totally wrong.

He is a tough, gritty Bond, kind of S.A.S soldier type Bond, rather than Etonian slick looking Bond, who hasn't a scratch on him.

A fantastic debut and well worth a watch. Craig brings the Bond franchise up to date, breaks the previous James Bond mould and now leaves the door open to literally anyone to play Bond which is refreshing.

Watch this film, you will not be disappointed, watch Mr Bond become a '00' agent and face death in the face as usual......' my understanding is double o's have a very short life expectancy' (unlike the film , which is if anything a little long in runtime)

4.0 out of 5 stars Dear oh dear !!!!!, 7 Jun. 2006
This is an entertaining little movie, but do not expect the James Bond experience. Just in the same way that Roger Moore , arguably shouldn't have done 'A View To A Kill' I really don't feel that Mr Connery should have done this film.

Whilst for many he will be the definitive Bond, and he certainly played him exceptionally well, this performance somewhat distracts from all the good he has done. I really does prove the logic behind the saying 'quit while your at the top' (Obviously I am just referring to Bond as Sir Sean has had some brilliant films in recent years)

The film was put in place as competition to Roger Moore's Octopussy and the media drummed up a 'Battle of The Bonds' however it was an anti climax as the release of 'Never Say Never Again' was delayed

The actual production of the film suffered set backs and in turn the final cut suffers from erratic editing and a weak climax.

Now on the plus side , it certainly has a good cast and after all it is Bond .... James Bond, but Connery looks a tad old to be running round as agent 007. It is certainly entertaining and a good cinematic effort, but don't wait to hear the theme music .. because it isn't there, and it is suprisinging how much of a difference that makes.

Overall a light hearted Bond outing, good overall but lacking some quintessential Bondness

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 28 Mar. 2006
An absolutely excellent box set - well providing your a fan of Sherlock Holmes. Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes is perfection and this set provides great value for money.
Every single episode of the Granada television show is here and the quality of the transfer is very good. Odd scenes are grainy but then again this can be seen in modern day recordings.
The screenplays are true to the books and the way that they are executed by all of the cast is brilliant.
If anyone has enough money (because obviously its not cheap) and are a fan of Sherlock Holmes , this box set is a must. It is possible to buy the episodes on seperate discs (two episodes per dvd) but that would be costly - go on push the boat out - it elementary maths my dear Watson !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Factual, 28 Mar. 2006
I found this a very informative documentary and presented in a suitable creepy way. To a certain extent the documentary is somewhat dated but interesting nether the less. The overall presentaton is good and there a a good panel of experts including some FBI profilers trying to work out who 'Jack' was.
The usual suspects come up (as seen in most documentaries and mentioned in most books), and at the end the panel all draw there conclusions as to who the ripper was - and if my memory serves me correctly they all agree on the same person - which was a little disappointing because it wasn't who I thought it was , and anyway isn't part of the fascination , the fact that no one knows who he was , and over 100 years on its unlikely we will ever know (So we can all be little Sherlocks)
Overall a good tv documentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and Interesting, 28 Mar. 2006
I have seen many documentaries on Jack the Ripper and find this to be a fascinating one. The actual feel of the documentary is some what amateurish and the voice over bloke isn't necessarily a good choice - although probably does sound like Jack the Ripper.
This aside it is a well constructed documentary that gives you background into London at the time, the victims and the locations and the potential suspects. For anyone who has read books on the subject, there is nothing startling there , but none the less an overall nicely presented documentary, with all the keys facts - and if someone doesn't know anything about Jack the Ripper, they will certainly be up to speed by the end of it.
Conclusion - forget the amateurish feel - concentrate on the substance of it and you won't be disappointed.
