5.0 out of 5 stars New "Bridge" better than frst!, 23 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Only once in my life have I found a "sequel" to be superior to the origiinal! I much preferred the brooding GODFATHER 2 to the first--and now I'm astonished, amazed and enthrall by The Bridge 2, which miraculously surpasses the first. Now the first is right up there with the Classic Nordic Noir--THE KILLING 1-3, the MILLENIUM trilogy most importantly. But I was shattered by the fearless honesty and depth of the characters! The plot is probably better in #1, sensational as it was, but the plotting here is fine and absorbing. BUT the characters have drunk a Shakespearean potion that heightens their inner depths thrillingly. Saga is here an astounding presence--managing to convey a robotic concentration and intensity focused on the mystery at hand------but OH! the views of her inner soul & heart are yearningly aching and filled with wonder. Sofia Helin is the Cate Blanchett of Europe! And Kim
Bodnia gives a richly textured complex set of heartbreaks and hidden agony. The ending is apropriately an emotional volcano!
This is worthy of Strindberg, as it reveals the Scandinavian world, and its need to keep things secret, repressed, and avoided.
I thought it had to be disappointing after the wild thrill of #1. But the Wagnerian brooding of THE BRIDGE 2 tops the Verdian melodramatic "rushes" of BRIDGE 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning "Nordic Noir", 7 Jun. 2013
I've been a huge fan of THE KILLING 1-3, The Bridge, Wallander, Unit One and The Protectors. But the ARNE DAHL collection totally surprised me by taking its rightful place right alongside those. It's a stunning and tremendously involving series of 5 3 hour stories. Wonderfully
written and directed, the actors shine in complex and VERY surprising tales. Each is a series of "mysteries" that ALL come together
by the end! God, I hope more are on the way! Does anyone know if there will be more, and when? It really is up there with the
galvanizing momentum of THE KILLING------a triumphant achievement!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant drama!, 11 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Hour - Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
THE HOUR is a brilliant drama from the BBC, with sumptuous production design, intriguing characters, a good but not totally convincing or enveloping plot. Ben Whishaw is a true stsr here! And all the actors shine! This is as good as US's AMC dramas MAD MEN or BREAKING BAD, and thats saying a ton! Especially because this has to cram all in two DVDs.

1.0 out of 5 stars UPDATE ON SNEAKY REASONS WE CANT SEE THESE!, 23 Oct. 2010
These Swedish WALLANDERS are all brilliant! You have to be paranoid & wonder what sneaky back room cover up made them decide, after 17 great ones, to NOT RELEASE ANY MORE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES! Is it a clumsy way to get us buying the BBC-BRANAGH ones, also excellent. BUT so many of us LOVE the original Swedish versions and feel
totally cheated! I hear some whiz kids are adding their own English subtitles to sell. What a mess! UPDATE DEC. 27, 2010: It turns out that YELLOW BIRD FILMS has been SECRETLY deleting any English subtitles JUST TO SELL THE BBC version, which they also have a share in! If you miss the Swedish Wallanders from 18-27 as much as me, WRITE WITH ANGER to Yellow Bird Films! (Or throw a brick through their windows.)
