4.0 out of 5 stars Another view from the USA, 24 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The author is a USA Asia expert. He knows his subject, but has been to North Korea for just one brief visit, which was as a govenment representative. So the book is superficial as ergards what is happening within Korea, and does not attempt to get into the minds of the North Korean elite

4.0 out of 5 stars For real football fans, 24 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book speaks for and to people who will consider themselves real and traditional fans and who are offended not by what they hear and see at matches so much as the ouput of the self-appointed metro elite. .

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book answered my questions. They're less interesting than earlier dynasties basically because during th eir reigns the monarchy became less significant politically

3.0 out of 5 stars A book for military historians, 24 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very strong on detail, especially on military detail and Churchill's family relationships, but weaker on the socio-political and historical contexts and the longer-term significance of Marlborough.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beginner's guide, 17 April 2012
This book makes sense of Ukraine for the uninitiated. It is thoroughly readable. The approach is to separate the different parts of Ukraine, each of which has its own history, often with powerful implications for present-day society and politics.

Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class
Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class
by Owen Jones
Edition: Paperback

2.0 out of 5 stars Mistitled, 17 April 2012
This book is not about chavs. None have been interviewed. Their voices are absent. The sub-title describes the book's contents. It is a (credible) critique of how the working class has been the victim of recent UK (mainly Conservative) government policies, and unjustly blamed (indeed demonized) as the source of the country's ills.
