5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to wake up, 4 Sept. 2013

The ability to choose which music to wake up and to have it fade in is a great asset. The choices are all intuitive and easy to follow. A great addition to my Kindle Fire apps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic recording of a known song, 12 May 2013
This was made famous through its use in the cult movie "Bagdad Cafe". Great music and the best performer of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A traveller's delight, 12 May 2013

This review is from: WiFi Connector (App)
Travelling to Asia for work and leisure this app is a god-send. In a remote part of Northern Lao it found signals from two hotels. within a minute I had the password for the nearer one and I was away. The presentation of possible connections with the relative strength proved useful in the dining room of one hotel where the relative speeds differed according to location.
Highly recommended.

The plot is built round a couple who have secret back stories. Holds attention tot the end. If you like thrillers more or less without violence this is for you.

Apart from the surprise of a button fly these are great shorts which I wore constantly on a Winter holiday in the sun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magesterial account of the first Viertnam war., 14 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It is unlikely that anyone will better this account of the war that became the prelude to the first American defeat in a war. Many sources are used to track the origins of the French humliation at the hands of the Viet minh and to show how perfidy among the Western nations - including UK - tried to stop what was seen as a communist thrust in East Asia but in reality was largely a nationalist movement. Detailed absorbing and insightful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 14 Feb. 2013

This review is from: Stonemouth (Kindle Edition)
Ian Banks has been such a creative writer this one falls well below expectations. Reads as if his editor has asked for passages of purple prose to flesh out a thin and predicatble story line. On the plus side, the dialect used will not put off those unfamiliar with East Coast Scots.

The setting will be unknown to 99% of the UK population. But, the plots are well contrived, the country lyrically described and the main character seems to jump out of the page. I'll take a holiday in the Outer Hebrides next year...

5.0 out of 5 stars Informed and exciting story telling, 1 Oct. 2009
This review is from: The Second World War (Paperback)
For one born in the Second World War this account is rivetting in combining sweep and fascinating detail. It is compulsive in its following of various story lines - the Eastern Front, the persecution of the jews and the Poles, the war in the Far East etc. Unputdowanable.
