for someone like me who wanted to get back into Java and see what the language has introduced in recent years. It has been good to go over again what the base language can do in these days of large framework solutions. Over the years I have read a number of Mr Schildt's books and always got something out of all of them. It does not get 5 stars because on the kindle the typeface used for the code in some places makes it a bit difficult to read.
As usual Jonathan has produced a book that covers a subject that is very complex and manages to boil it down to the essentials and explain it in clear language. As he makes clear it is no easy task to decide where to start with Oracle database, but I think that he has done a great job in the way that the book is organized and as usual he has challenged me to think about how the databases I work on day to day are configured.
