The Jerk Magnet (Life at Kingston High)
The Jerk Magnet (Life at Kingston High)
by Melody Carlson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Do I attract jerks like a magnet....?!, 26 May 2014
The Jerk Magnet is a fun book, filled with the hopes, dreams and failures of one girl who's struggling to fit in. She feels plain. And boring. To top it all off, her skin isn't that great either. But.... when her new stepmum (aka, fairygodmum!) convinces her to change her hair, get new skin products and transform her wardrobe, she feels like she's gone from being a nobody to a somebody! With a big move, she knows it's time to start over. Thing is, she's finding it weird that all these guys are now attracted to her! Can she cope with the pressure of keeping up with the world's view of beauty?? Or, will she find out there's more to being beautiful than meets the eye...?
This is a well-written, enjoyable book, full of some of the issues we face as teens. Would definitely recommend it to teen girls - whether you like your appearance or not! Some great truths are in here.

Just Another Girl: A Novel
by Melody Carlson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Am I really just another girl..??, 26 May 2014
Aster feels like she doesn't have a life. I mean, seriously, who likes being stuck looking after a sister with special needs, while trying to avoid a snappy older sister, get meaning across to an absent mum and work out whether a boy likes you or not?? I wouldn't like all that, I can tell you! Aster finally thinks she may have a chance at life... before an eye-opening party brings her back down to earth with a crash. Her family is one big mess - and she seems to be the one who's supposed to keep it in order! How fair is that?! With Aster, you will laugh, cry, gasp and generally have a fantastic read! What happens when a teen tries to get back the life her family stole from her? Find out.... in this book! Suggest for teens. (especially those feeling like they get dumped with everything from their families)

4.0 out of 5 stars You may loose yourself in this story..., 26 May 2014
This book is yet another good, meaningful story from Melody Carlson's range. Take a girl who's never been kissed... she's nearly sixteen, and happens to think a guy in school is pretty good-looking. Add in a jealous girlfriend, a gullible younger girl and some horrific photos sent round the whole school... and you're on an unforgettable journey towards understanding the importance of being careful with who you trust.... as well as how NOT to let yourself get carried away with adoring a cute boy... ! Some important lessons come out of this, as well as it being a greatly enthralling story full of realistically made characters. You won't forget this book for a while! Recommend for teen girls - and boys if they want!

Music Theory in Practice, Grade 1 (Music Theory in Practice (ABRSM))
by Eric Taylor
Edition: Sheet music
Price: £4.32

4.0 out of 5 stars Music book 1, 26 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is mainly fairly simple to understand, for those who read music! But, I did need to ask my teacher for some help on some of the tests! Good stretch of your knowledge and some good music words to learn in there. Worked ok with violin.

VIVA VERMONT (Carter House Girls)
VIVA VERMONT (Carter House Girls)
by CARLSON MELODY
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Snow, skiis and a whole load of holiday troubles!, 26 May 2014
I would recommend this book (and the whole series!) to teen girls who love a good bit of fiction to get stuck in.... maybe as a holiday bit of reading. There are eight books in the series, and they are full of real-life issues and fun characters who feel so real, you just want to meet them! The carter house girls are, basically put, a group of completely different teens, who argue like sisters and stand up for each other like friends... as well as having boy troubles, accidents, heroic stints and smears of jealousy along the way! When the girls get to stay in Vermont for a ski trip, nothing seems like it could go wrong.... but throw in a group of boys insistent on partying, a broken-down vehicle and a night in a dingy spare room, and you have it - the perfect series to loose yourself in!!

STEALING BRADFORD (Carter House Girls)
STEALING BRADFORD (Carter House Girls)
by CARLSON MELODY
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Stealing a boyfriend should be a crime... right?!, 6 May 2014
A bunch of completely different girls live together in a boarding house.... with a lady who believes in manners and fashion. Ok for those who stay on her good side, not so good for those who couldn't care less what others think! But mix in a boy who gets stuck in between two girls... a bullied friend... and the usual school troubles, and you have it - the Carter House girls at their best! Melody Carlson writes with a balance of humour, love, excitement and a level approach to life and you will feel as if you've known the girls all your life! Recommend for teen girls.

Petticoat Ranch Paperback (Lassoed in Texas)
Petticoat Ranch Paperback (Lassoed in Texas)
by Mary Connealy
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Petticoats everywhere!, 6 May 2014
This was a fun, exciting, full book filled with cleverly created characters. After the death of her rejecting husband, Sophie has done everything a man would do, and much more! She's kept her little family of girls together with a firm hand and a kind tongue. Now though she's faced with a whole new challenge. The arrival of her late husband's long lost brother reveals a whole past of her in laws she never knew about. Being left with no chance but to marry the annoyingly protective Clay, she's stuck between wanting to throttle him and wanting to get to know him better! Throw in the plot a bunch of murdering horse-riders, a bunch of clever girls unafraid to do man's work and a new baby.... and the story is full of love, life, laughter and a serious note on forgiving your enemies. Good story for young women who like a good story, set in America, some years ago.

Model Misfit (Geek Girl, Book 2)
Model Misfit (Geek Girl, Book 2)
by Holly Smale
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.49

4.0 out of 5 stars The geek returns...., 6 May 2014
Harriet is back in a hilarious, cool and crazy tale of lost love, muddled life and the upcoming excitement of a new baby.... as well as a muddle of modelling, two new friends (or are they?) and a stalker who won't say no... this is the best sequel to 'Geek girl'! Harriet is struggling more than ever to fit into the modelling world, preferring her printed T-shirts and casual wear to the horrifically high shoes and slinky dresses. Oh yeah, and there's also an angry octopus, a disappearing cockroach, a set of models who look annoyingly perfect, a reluctant cat and a whole load of boy trouble in this crazy book full of fun! Suggest for teen girls to enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meet the geek..., 6 May 2014
Harriet Manners admits she is a geek. She knows just about every strange, quirky fact there is to know. But... is that going to get her through another year of school? With a bully who is determined to shame her and a best friend who is pulling her into the scary fashion world, Harriet is not at all comfy with it all! But, then she's caught by a modelling agency, almost by accident, and a whole new era of confusion begins. With a step mum who's getting steadily more nervy, a dad who is embarrassingly OTT and a best friend who she may have lost forever... Harriet isn't having an easy time. This book is funny and made me laugh, is full of fun and excitement, is so realistic you feel as if you're there with them and you won't want to leave this characters after reading this. Recommend for older girls and teens. You will love Harriet!

5.0 out of 5 stars New book by Francine Rivers..., 6 May 2014
This review is from: Bridge to Haven PB (Paperback)
This book is a definite winner! It's a thick book, well worth the money. It's a gripping, exciting and dramatic story of one girl's struggle to be accepted in the world. Believing the lies she's made up in her head, she tells herself she doesn't fit in and that she's unwanted, unloved. So, when her foster sister's ex-boyfriend takes an interest in her, she's so ecstatic she doesn't think about the consequences. Ending up so far in the deep end she doesn't know who or what to turn to, she's desperate to escape the mess she's made. Through it all, her loving adopted family have worried and prayed about her constantly, not knowing where she is. She's built a false life for herself and she'll pay for the consequences... but can she learn to trust God, her family, and those who she wants to believe are her friends? And will she find true, actual love without all the pretence, in all this? Presented with love, a fresh look on life and a clever pen, Francine Rivers takes you on a journey you will never forget!
