1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous, 8 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Anthem (Kindle Edition)
We read this to see what the fuss was about. It is a simplistic view that gives no thought for the dire consequences that can come from individualistic behaviour. It annoyed us because we fear when people read it they may accept it without critique, with the irony of this being lost on them. Other than being a danger to society we just found it a very drawn out book (despite being very short) which was increasingly predictable as it went along. Worth a read if only to understand where fans of Rand get their ideas from and as such be better able to discuss nuance and differing perspectives with them. In a couple of words: simplistic nonsense.

p.s. Also best avoided if if you roll your collective eyes at our grammar.

4.0 out of 5 stars US measurements let it down for UK-based readers, 25 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I just received this book - it looks fantastic. The recipes seems pretty straightforward and delicious (the photos are very tempting). I had read this on another review but hadn't really realised how much it mattered (I'm not a very experienced cook) - but this book is written with US measurements and quite a bit of US vocabulary (more than I had known existed). It isn't a huge problem but it is a bit annoying if you aren't quite sure what things are, or have to convert all the measurements. Other than that, I can't wait to cook some of the recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful for my Master thesis, 28 Mar. 2013
This review is from: Global Education Inc. (Paperback)
A very useful book for anyone who wants to know more about how education policy is being shaped by policy networks, policy entrepreneurs and education businesses around the world. The book does not claim to be comprehensive (it would be impossible to completely map the subjects of the book) but uses a series of examples to show the connections between actors involved in education policy around the world. Ball uses the shift to governance to show how neoliberalism is being "done" in terms of education policy, convincingly arguing that a nationally-focused approach to education policy analysis is no longer appropriate. Apart from the content, the book is very readable and clearly structured. Highly recommended.
