5.0 out of 5 stars More of the same, 27 Sept. 2016

Another "coffee table" book covering the air war in Tunisia. You either like his attention to detail or you hate it, I love it.
The book covers the Torch invasion in November 1942 until the surrender of the Germans in Tunisia. It also involves the Malta based aircraft, so follows on from Malta, the Spitfire years.
It also picks up the activities of the Desert Airforce, after the 8th Army attacked the Mareth line and entered Tunisia in April 1943.

Unlike most handcranks this grinder has a bowl that actually holds enough for the percolator.
I would be lost without it.

A lot better than the current TV series, but the special effects are beginning to show their age.
The plot is a bit thin though.

5.0 out of 5 stars nothing beats a percolater, 27 Sept. 2016

I do not know about 12 cups capacity, I suspect they would be very small cups.
I put it on in the morning and it lasts all day, so I would say closer to 6 mugs.
Easy clean, easy fill, easy to use, makes nice coffee. What more would you want?

2.0 out of 5 stars A short story well padded., 27 Sept. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Probably the worst Gor book I have read.
The first 100 pages could easily have been condensed to less then 10.
By the time you get to 200 pages you realise there might be a story trying to get out.
At 300 pages you are confused about what is going on, that is the best part of the book.
To understand the story at 400pages you really must have read KUR OF GOR.
At 500 pages you are wondering where the story has gone.
the next 100 pages, up to 600 feel they have been added as padding.
I will not comment on the final 100.

I feel that this book feels very like a short story that failed to make his collection of short stories that came out a few years ago, so was extended to fill a full novel. It is also written as a "Slave book" which means there is little background. But suddenly the narrator comes out with weird and wonderful statement, such as Gor is smaller than Earth, and only has one major landmass.. Does that mean that you could reach the Pani, overland by going through the Barrens?

I was very disappointed in this book

5.0 out of 5 stars developed, but not needed, 2 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very much a coffee table book, extensive and at times repeats itself when it compares designs.
Almost none of the designs mentioned in the book were brought into service during the war. Indeed at one point when talking about transport aircraft the author remarks that all the proposals appeared to be aimed at the post war commercial market rather than the immediate military requirement.
However the author does develop why designs were brought forward and how unforeseen events overtake the requirement. An example is how the development of the ship carried float plane was abandoned when it became clear that they were not required due to the development of the aircraft carrier.

5.0 out of 5 stars happy clappy musical, 2 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
a cheery happy dvd, which the plot is designed to promote the music of the proclaimers.
If you like their music sit back and listen to the music and admire the scenery, but do not try to use the dvd as a guide of how to get round Edinburgh. I have worked as a driver in the city for about 50 years and even I was getting lost.
Overall it is a happy go lucky musical, enjoy!

This review is from: Expedition to Disaster (Hardcover)
An excellent account of the disaster that was the Athenian Expedition to Syracuse during the wars with Sparta.
Adolf Hitler should have read this book before he attacked Russia during WW!!, the similarities are amazing.

Oil Strike North Sea: A first hand history of North Sea oil: 1
Oil Strike North Sea: A first hand history of North Sea oil: 1
by Mike Shepherd
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £16.89

5.0 out of 5 stars a good account, so far., 7 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At last a clear account of North Sea oil exploration, it covers how the basin was divided up between the countries, and other political actions. As well as easy to follow account of both why the oil formed and how it is mined.
Oh and it takes great delight in quoting the naysars who first forecast that there was no chance of finding oil in the north sea to and it will run out tomorrow. I guess one day they will get that right, but it appears not that time soon.
Although the book is titled North Sea, it does mention the rigs moving into the Western Atlantic. It also mentions the politics of oil mining and explains why the price of oil collapsed recently.

Why do authors presume that while people in the past might have lived in different houses and wore different clothes they had very modern 21 century outlook to life?
The ghost of Alfred's daughter was almost snowpaked out of pre-English history and yet it appears that it was her, not Alfred, that was really the founder of a united country that became England.
There appears to be a good story buried in the Welsh and Irish accounts, sadly this is not it.
