5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting end (CONTAINS SPOILERS), 12 Mar. 2014
This review is from: Dexter Season 8 (Amazon Video)

6 months late to the party (I just saw the finale) and no ones ever going to read this, but hey I want to say my bit on the end of Dexter.

To all that say Dexter didn't change, that Dexter was still Dexter, that's true right up to the point that Deb dies, at that stage he finally does change and realise that what he's wanted for 8 seasons, to live a normal life is not actually possible. Some people see that he chooses a life of solitude over being with Hannah as a sign that he's not changed, but it's the exact opposite it's because he's changed that he knows that if he goes to Argentina sooner or later those he cares about will come to a bad end, so he chooses to be alone and away from his son and Hannah, finally he puts someone ahead of his own needs, that's the character arc right there.

The other aspect of course is that he's punishing himself for Debs death, perhaps for all that he's done. You get the sense that there's no Harry in this new life of his, but equally there's no dark passenger either, there's just an empty shell.

Yes it's a very bleak ending, and might come as a surprise because of the sometimes comedic elements that sprung up every now and again in Dexter, but ultimately it's the most fitting ending and one that's been sign posted right from the start.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Awful, 17 Nov. 2011
After all the money they made from MW2, this should of been something special, instead it's just MW 2.5, it really is just an expansion from the previous MW game and nothing more. Even the things that black ops got right they havn't incorporated into this game instead sticking with what MW2 actually got wrong (unlimited TK'ing for example).

I played MW2 a few hours a night for a year, and then I played black ops for a few hours a night for a year, but this? this I'm already bored with, even playing with the same guys I usually play online with, it's just too much of the same for too long, the weapons selection is pretty much the same as the last game, upgrading weapons is just a waste of time. The maps are absolutely terrible, they are way over complicated, I'm not sure if it was intended but these maps seem to be geared towards campers, towards people just sitting in corners, which basically just takes all the fun out of the game.

Black ops for all it's lag issues actually tried to improve some things, and they did to their credit, so for example black ops is a big improvement on world at war, but MW3? this is a joke, it's such a blatent money grab it's not even funny.

Unfortunately the whole world has bought this, so I'm sure in another 2 years there will be more huge hype about the new "Modern Warfare 4" and it will be MW2 again with a few new weapons and a few new maps, and they will be laughing all the way to the bank, and that will pretty much go on forever as they are not going to stop when they are on to a good thing. What is required is for another developer to come along and take the whole COD concept forward, but in a lot of peoples eyes this is the end of the line for the COD games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but last 3 faded a bit, 17 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel and it's been a long wait for it to appear on dvd/blu ray but here it is. The first 2 episodes are amazing, they are basically the graphic novel brought to life. Everything is pretty much bang on, the characters, the cinematography, the pacing. The same realistic vibe you get from the comic they have nailed in those first 2 shows. Unfortunately the other episodes are not as good, but they are still great TV.

People want zombies, they want a small bunch of people struggling against the odds, but you got to throw in some originality, and shocks, that's what the graphic novel did and that's what the first few episodes do, but come on (SPOILERS COMING UP), a lone scientist, in a goverment lab trying to find a cure by himself!? it's been done a 100 times, and as far as I remember is not in the graphic novel, also not in the graphic novel is any kind of explanation as to why everything is happening, they drop hints but no one really knows, and we didn't really need the scientist dude trying to explain everything to the audience, because the more in the dark the characters are the more suspense there is. There has to be answers at some point, but just not yet, and do it with more originality.

This show is about how people cope when the world ends, and the audience is like a fly on the wall (or fly on a zombie) watching it all unfold, but don't give us cliches.

If the upcoming seasons are like the first half of season 1, then this show will become something special.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Rubbish, 13 Feb. 2011
I wanted to play it for a good few months before judging it. These are just comments on the multiplayer part of the game, and not the single player as I view COD games first and foremost as multiplayer games with single player missions tacked on.

Right then, why is my title "Total Rubbish" ? There are a number of huge flaws in this game, but the first and the biggest, and what makes it pretty much unplayable is lag. Of course everyone has varying connection speeds, so I'm going on what it was like playing MW2 compared to playing Black ops, and let's just say it's terrible. If you enjoy being frustrated and being driven crazy then this is the game for you. Most scenerio's go like this. You see the enemy, perhaps they are running away form you, or at least have their back turned, so in otherwords they are not even aware of you. You aim, and start shooting at them, and no bullets register as hitting them, meanwhile this enemy player is suddenly aware that bullets are flying past him, and turns and fires (usually just one shot), while you are still shooting at him (and this is straight at him), he then kills you. Fun eh?

The absolute least a game of this type has to sort out is lag with online play. The absolute least that should happen is when you shoot people, with whatever gun, and the bullets are right on them, it registers as a hit, in this game 4/10 times it does not. Of course MW2 has this issue too, but nowhere near as bad as black ops, in MW2 you might have 8/10 times it registers the hit, not perfect but at least playable.

Ok so that's the biggest problem. Next are the helicopters in the game, which have gone from being overpowered to now hugely underpowered. When everyone started getting the game, you would work to get a kill streak going, you would get a huey, or an apache, and then sit back as those helicopters racked up points, everyone just got instantly killed and basically you had no defense against it, so they were overpowered. Then everyone realised that if you used the ground to air missle (strella) you could pretty much shoot them down instantly. Now we are the stage where you can work to get 5/6 killstreak, get (supposely) one of the most powerful awards in the game a huey, and that huey is shot down within 2 seconds of it appearing on the map, isn't that great! This is a huge game design flaw, and it's amazing they have missed this in play testing.

Last stand. By the looks of it, for some unknown reason they seem to increase the accuracy of firing a pistol when someone goes into last stand, so it's now at the point were you can shoot someone repeatedly, who doesn't die, they then go into last stand, and shoot you dead with one shoot from across the map, which just messses up the game, this doesn't even include if they can be revived or not.

Last problem (although there are lots of others, these are the main ones). Flack jackets are beyond a joke. I've seen players who wear flack jackets get hit by 3 RPGs, walk through a claymore and get hit directly in the head by a missile, and still keep running. Jugganaut used to be in the first MW until they realised it was messing up the game, and they took it out for the 2nd, Flack jacket is the new juggernaut, it basically makes using grenades, missiles, RPGs (noob tube) totally pointless, literally if you are facing a team with everyone wearing a flack jacket then any kind of explosives are taken out of the game, and everyone has to rely upon guns. Again this is a huge gameplay flaw.

The only way any of this makes sense is that the makers of the game (i'e the people who make the final decisions on how the game should play) prefer game play based on creeping around, and hiding in corners, basically splinter cell. So I guess if you like splinter cell you will like Black ops, but if you like MW2 you will probably hate this game, and that's not even covering the biggest problem which makes it unplayable anyway, which is lag.

Oh the new maps are mostly terrible, berlin and kowloon as basically unplayable as they are a campers paradise, if you enjoy sitting in a corner for 10 mins literally doing nothing then these maps are for you. Stadium and discovery are ok, but at best you would give them 5/10.

If you can get this game for £10 then fine, it's worth a run around (or sitting in a corner), but anything more than that, hold on to your money, play MW2 and wait for MW3 to appear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Show, 9 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great show, yes it's more "serious" then SG1 but that's no bad thing, the parallels with BSG are no bad thing either. Obviously some episodes are better than others, but with this show you really do have a feeling of not knowing what's going to happen next, and combine that with great acting I think you have something which should be around for a good few more years to come.

3.0 out of 5 stars Multiplayer not as good as the first one, 11 Nov. 2009
Don't believe the hype.

I've got nothing to say about the single player missions as I never play those, I'm only interested in the online multiplayer aspects, and unfortunately these are not as good as the previous game.

It's looks fantastic. Probably best graphics I've seen on an xbox game. So nothing to fault there.

The problem lies in the level design, which is all important for how much "fun" it is.

The previous game, has small levels, and some larger levels, which compared to this game were fairly basic, but the reason that worked was because you spent your time fighting against the enemy and not walking around cars (most of the time), dodging bits of background, jumping over logs..but in this game that's what you will find yourself doing 99% of the time, unless you are a "camper" but we don't talk about them.

The level design in this game is way way way too complicated. It's almost as if they thought to themselves "right, now much stuff can we cram into this space!" and forgot about the most important aspect of the level design is interaction between the players, you Vs your enemy, and to do that you need a more straighforward layout. And there's the size of these levels. Most are too big, you spend your time running around trying to find the enemy, and you will also find that most of the play centers around one small part of the level, with 80% of the rest of the level not even being used, is that how it's meant to be??....basically now it feels like playing Ghost recon, and the reason I never liked Ghost recon was because the levels were too big...

I'll keep going with it until I reach level 40 and can upgrade to some decent weapons, but after that I suspect I'll be moving back to the previous game..

Ive had some more time to play this, and I dislike it now more then I did before. The worse thing about modern warefare was people camping. By this I mean idiots sitting in dark corners waiting 20 mins for someone...anyone to walk past so they could shoot them with a snipers rifle, or knife or whatever, basically they have no interest in playing the game, they just want to rack up as many kills as possible, that to them makes them "good players". In the first game you could put up with this because most of the levels were well designed, so people couldn't camp/hide...the problem with modern warfare 2 is that most of the levels are so badly designed that the layouts actually ENCOURAGE people to just sit/wait/camp waiting for people to come past. The brazilian town level is a perfect example. There's so many rooms/buildings that if players just want to sit in door ways, and hide you basically can't play the game, not because you are not a good player, but because if everyone just sat hiding in corners for 20 mins staring at the dust floating around, it wouldn't make much of a fun game would it? Well unfortunately that's how more and more matches I take part in are going, and people can't use the excuse that they are learning the maps, because most people know them now. No, the problem is the map/level design, which is overly complex.

Next problem is the game lobby closing. In the old game, this might happen once or twice say an hour, in this game, I literally have to go into a lobby 5/6 times each time I want to play, because the game keeps closing. The only thing I can put this down to is people get more frustrated playing this game then they did the old one, so they keep leaving before the end of the game.

All in all, this is an update to the old game, not a new game in-itself.
