The Pythagorean Theorem for Babies (Math for Babies)
The Pythagorean Theorem for Babies (Math for Babies)
by Fred Carlson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, clear illustrations, 11 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Clearly illustrated and laid out. One or two Americanisms in the text but they don't obscure the educational content. Pity that it is a paperback that wouldn't survive if baby gets its hands on it and not a more robust board book but I certainly don't regret purchasing it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a translation of Chalandon?, 29 Mar. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Am not quite sure what this is. It isn't a translation of Chalandon's original work, it is a fraction of the length of the french original and has no references or footnotes.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's rubbish - do yourself a favour and don't watch it. No, really., 7 Mar. 2015
This review is from: Noah [DVD] (DVD)
I almost stopped watching this woeful dross halfway through but resisted the urge in the hope it would get better. It didn't.

Irish-English, English-Irish Practical Dictionary
Irish-English, English-Irish Practical Dictionary
Price: £6.29

1.0 out of 5 stars not yet practical for use on Kindle, 10 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm sure the paper version of this Irish-English Dictionary is very useful, unfortunately that isn't the case for the Kindle version.

The Kindle version doesn't have a table of contents or a searchable index, so unless the word you're seeking happens to start with the letter 'a' you've got a lot of pages to work through.

I'd suggest that the publishers split the book into two parts: Irish-English and English-Irish and make them searchable. In the meantime I've requested a refund because the book is no use to me in its present form. Disappointing.

MAKITA GA4530KD 115mm Angle Grinder 110V
MAKITA GA4530KD 115mm Angle Grinder 110V

1.0 out of 5 stars Photo shows a larger grinder, not the GA4530KD, 3 May 2014
I was interested in this product as it shows it with a handle. Having checked Makita's own site I realised that the picture was wrong and the GA4530 does not look like this.

An Iron Rose
An Iron Rose
by Peter Temple
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, 8 Mar. 2014
Action, humour, tension, well-rendered characters. Of the many crime/thriller novels I've read recently this is the one I've enjoyed most. A dark plot that is brought to a satisfying conclusion. An Iron Rose has all the pace and grittiness of a Mike Hammer novel while still retaining many of the more subtle touches that lift Temple well above most of the other modern writers in this genre.

The Broken Shore: scintillating crime in the dry heat of Australia
The Broken Shore: scintillating crime in the dry heat of Australia
Price: £0.99

5.0 out of 5 stars multi-layered quality crime fiction, 21 Feb. 2014
Detective Sergeant Joe Cashin is recuperating from injuries acquired in the line of duty and has left the city for a rural backwater, however the illusion of tranquility is soon broken by a vicious attack which leads to a murder investigation and a deepening sense of corruption affecting those around him.

Temple's style isn't always the easiest to follow and the story is fairly slow to start with, but the depth that Temple brings to his story and his depiction of people and place are very good indeed. I thought that 'Truth' was an excellent novel, but in my opinion this book is even better.

Truth: a blazing thriller in the dry Australian heat
Truth: a blazing thriller in the dry Australian heat
by Peter Temple
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

5.0 out of 5 stars worth persevering with, 18 Feb. 2014
The world that Peter Temple creates in 'Truth' is a compelling one and there is a depth to his writing which I often find lacking in other crime novels - however this isn't an easy read. If you like novels where there's a clear line between the good guys and the bad guys you might want to give this a miss, but I thought it was excellent. My only criticism is that it was sometimes tricky to keep track of the large cast of characters, but this was a small price to pay for the pleasure of an otherwise very satisfying read.

Londongrad

5.0 out of 5 stars well written and evocative international crime thriller, 2 Feb. 2014
This review is from: Londongrad (Kindle Edition)
I thought Londongrad was probably worth 4 and half stars.
I found the quality of the writing to be better than that of many in this genre although I thought the earlier chapters were more gripping than the later ones,- hence not quite worth five stars.
I think the reviewer who only gave it 2 stars either doesn't read much fiction in the crime genre or had read another book.
Ian Rankin says that Reggie Nadelson writes 'wonderfully well' and I happen to agree with him.
