5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, 21 April 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This manga had a preview run in Newtype magazine. It is set in an alternate reality of the so-called 'perfect world' that Shinji wishes he could live in at the very end epsiode of the Evangelion anime. I have only read the first volume so far but the artwork and the story look promising.

The manga has plently of 'in jokes' for fans and still manages to keep the story serious. Book One mainly sets up the world that Shinji lives in but fans will be drawn to this book--can't wait to read more!

5.0 out of 5 stars An anime worthy of praise., 9 Feb. 2006
This review is from: Elfen Lied - Vol.1 [DVD] (DVD)
Violent, gory...nudity...don't be put off...these are merely selling points to the ununsal genre of this anime, which I would describe as more of a 'blue horror' genre.
This is an anime that has complelling characters, and questions the darker side of human nature, its cute, funny, dramatic and will make you cry. It only has 13 epsiodes, plus one special ep...which to my knowledge has not been put on the dvds...
The plot:
A science experiment gone wrong, namely, a pink haired girl named Lucy is imprisoned in a lab, she manages to escape...along the way slaughtering all of the guards with some unknown invisable force. Before she jumps into the sea to escape, a bullet is fired into the back of her head--not killing her--but messing up her mind to create a second docile peaceful and childlike, other personality--Nyuu.
Lucy--or rather Nyuu is found by two college students, cousins Yuka and Kouta. They call her Nyuu because 'nyuu' is the only thing she can say, she is also naked and also has two horns coming out of her head. (some chobits cliches here a little) they take her home and deicide to look after her. The miltary is looking for the murderous Lucy though. They come to Kouta's door, but for some unknown reason Kouta lies about knowing the whereabouts of Lucy/Nyuu.
The story contiunes on a rather dramatic plot that questions the darker nature of the human mind, and the limits to human evolution. There is moderate violence in this anime, but it is only mostly found in the first epsiode and pivotal episodes, much more of the story focuses on the drama and storyline...
I highly remcommend this anime to anyone, the story is new and excuiting and the plot will surprise you.

5.0 out of 5 stars ^_^, 8 May 2005
Kiddy Grade is not very well known but it should be. Those who like Gunsmith cats and Charlies Angels should take a look at this DVD. Oh and anime fans as well. There are no over the top 'anime faces' plenty of action and great characters all set in space. So far each epsiode focuses on a different mission that the two main characters Eclair and lumiere have to deal with. However, under all the hype and glamour...something isn't quite right...there is something out of place. As the last epsiode on this dvd will tell you, there is something more disturbing going on under the skin.
Highly recommended.

Gunsmith cats is a great series, for girls and guys. Packed with action and great storylines, you won't regret buying this. A word of mention that Gunsmith cats is aimed at a mature audience due to drug use/nudity.

5.0 out of 5 stars best in the universe, 10 Mar. 2004
Tenchi has always been a wild ride. Universe, the second series, starts off from the very beginning, allowing the characters to meet again with a twisted storyline. Strange yes, but never tiring. Universe, in my opinion, is the tamer seires, not half as funny as the first series, tenchi muyo, but universe is more complete and stands alone as a really good anime. Thoose who have not seen the first series will not be in confusion as the plot is well explained.
Tenchi is a mix of sci-fi and romance that does have a large number of male fans as well as female.
The plots are clever and funny and your fall in love with the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars well written-well drawn, 11 Feb. 2004

There is never a dull moment in this romance/horror manga. Volume 4 introduces 'Chidori'a quirky young female character whom has a crush on Yuhi and is seeking ceres, after seeing her fly, to help her sick brother have his fondest wish and is blackmailing Aya with a photograph of her/ceres flying over the city.
Ceres is one of the better mangas out there, as it combines horror, drama and romance very well while keeping the characters fresh and excuiting.
A must read--but collect the volumes in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars real life manga, 11 Feb. 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
MARS is one of thoose rare manga's that tries to mimic real life drama instead of going all sci-fi or magical like many manga's. It is nothing like marmalade boy as it is not as upbeat, though it tries to be comical...however, it is the tragic and dark moments which make MARS good and stand out from other comics. Although Keira is the main character, it is Rei who is the more interesting one. His troubled past and the horrible story of his brother Sei are what drive the narrative. MARS has many tear jerking moments and violence--thoose looking for an upbeat tounge in cheek manga should look at Love Hina or marmalade boy as comic moments in MARS are either rare or not cheesy enough. Overall though, a good manga.

5.0 out of 5 stars truly above great, 11 Feb. 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
this is one of the better manga's out there, the plot never slows and the characters never become too serious nor too funny. By the 5th novel, the character Aki shows his darker side and reveals that he is probably more of a danger to Aya then Ceres is. Aki's fight to keep within his own state of mind is heartfelt and interesting and Toya's sacrfice of his memories for Aya shows he is capable of actual human emotion. Readers may notice that the books are in the origanal japanese format which may be bothersome for some but the reading style just takes getting used too.
Warning though: ceres 5 contains strong violence and a Aki has a twisted 'relationship' with his sister, which is of course, completly justified but a fair warning that ceres is for an older reader.

Dragons And Destiny [DVD] [NTSC]
Dragons And Destiny [DVD] [NTSC]
Dvd ~ Escaflowne

5.0 out of 5 stars anime at its best, 21 Jan. 2004
I first watched this on fox kids--where the epsiodes were only 20 mins due to the cutting and so forth. Watching the DVD was so different--you can watch the origanl opening sequence as well as in Japanese with english subtitles. Escalflowne has a great plot and character delevopment. It is nothing like the movie. Hitomi a high school girl is transported into the starge world of Gaia which is crumbling with war and battle. Aided by the power of her family airloom necklace and having the gift of tarot card reading she can predict and change the course of destiny--namely Gaia's destiny and that of her friends.
This is a funny, dramatic anime--one if the better ones. There isn't a single dull dragging epsiode, so collecting them all is a must be.
There are some mild scenes of violence--but not really much else to put anyone off. The characters are so loveable, particulry the half cat half girl 'Merl' and the insane 'Dilandu'
The plot twists are unexpected and the story line is very unique.
I'd reccomend this to anyone.

Gunsmith Cats: Mister V
Gunsmith Cats: Mister V

5.0 out of 5 stars the best!, 7 July 2003
this is by far the most dramatic volume, Rally's showdown with the infamous drug dealer Goldie, who uses drugs to brainwash people into doing her bidding (including gunsmith cat bountyhunter Rally- who is still recovering from Goldies attacks last time) now goldie has a new drug, kerasine 2, which is even more lethel.
When Goldie jumps bail, she's sending Rally a challenge 'just you try and stop me!' Rally decides to go for it, but Goldie has a secret weapon. A powerful hit-man code name Mr.V. What's his connection with Rally? His true identiy may well give her a heart attack!
Guns, drugs, bombs action and heartbreak, 'Mr.V' is by far the best volume and worth everypenny..
