As a regular reader/buyer of Battle comic Charleys War was one of the main reasons i brought it week in week out. When the editions in this volume came out i had stopped buying it because i was 16/17 years old and comic's were for kids? Pat story telling and Joe's drawing are frankly the as good as it gets. As the story line's are all new to me 30 odd years later i had to sit down and read it all in one sitting. Alot of happy memories come back so thank you Pat and Joe for all those happy times of sitting down and reading a comic just for the hell of it. If i can try and sum it up in simple terms it is that Charley Bourne is the type of bloke who you cannot help but like and care about and wish he was your mate.
What more can i say.
Cheers Pat and Joe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charleys War, 15 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Reading Battle comic and Charleys War inperticular was part of growing up for me back in the 1970's.
Going into my local Martin's newsagent and finding it on the shelf along with the Beano was all part of my weekend.
Charleys War was the one comic strip that stayed with me after all these years, i am now 48!
Pat and Joe's story writing and drawings brought a whole new world into view regarding telling the story of WW1.
In 1985 myself and my couson visited the battlefields of WW1 one long weekend, on one of the many guided tours.
We were lucky enough to have a couple of WW1 verterans on our tour bus and be able to listen to their storys about their experience's.
Also there was a old lady how had come all the way from New Zealand to see her fathers last resting place.
All there was his name inscribe on a wall along with hundards of others because he had no know grave.
She was only 9 months old when he was killed.
This has also stayed with me all these years, all wars waste lives but the First World War more than any other.

Thanks Pat and Joe

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book but?, 30 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great book for anyone interested in this subject.
Lots of very good first hand accounts of the defense of bastogne.
But it is let down by the following, spelling mistakes aplenty.
Only a few photos some of poor quailty.
And one miss indentification of a Panther tank for a Tiger tank.
But i am glad i brought this book as it is a great read.

All Hell Let Loose: The World at War 1939-1945
All Hell Let Loose: The World at War 1939-1945
by Max Hastings
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Mr Hastings(Sorry Sir Max Hastings), 13 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the third book by Max Hastings i have read in the last 18 months and i can say i can not recommend it enough.
If you are interested in ww2 then this is for you.
I have read many books on ww2 over the last 30 years ( God i am old) but i find Mr Hastings style both compiling and very hard to put down, as my wife will testify. I read this book in about a week.
If you are looking for a book that goes into every aspect of this subject then you can not go wrong with this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for the money., 13 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I brought these combats as i have been looking for a pair for a while now.
I went for the large size as i am a 34-35 inch waist.
Be warned they are very large around the back!
And very baggy. I think i would go for the medium if i brought them again.
Also they are a lot darker in real life than they are in the photo.
Which is why i only gave them 3 stars.

Surplus Army Classic M65 Washed Winter Jacket Military Mens Field Parka Olive
Surplus Army Classic M65 Washed Winter Jacket Military Mens Field Parka Olive

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for the cold weather, 13 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I brought this jacket for the winter. I have worn it a few times and it is ok.
There are just a few of things that stop me giving it 4 stars.
The sleeves are too long so i have had to turn them up which spoils the over all look of the jacket.
One of the pocket linings was not stiched up at all.
The colour is a lot darker than in the picture but i hope it will fade with time.
Apart from that is ok.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving account of one mans war, 3 Oct. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Easy Company Soldier (Paperback)
I have read most of the books about easy company and i found this one the most moving. Don writes his story from childhood up to the present day in retirement. I don't mind writting this book moved me to tears in some places when he is talking about the death of his best friend Skip Muck. A very well written account of one mans journey i highly recommend this book.
