5.0 out of 5 stars A must for meat lovers and novice cooks, 3 April 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Yes, I'm one of those people who will never buy meat unless there is a full set of cooking instructions on the packet. Why, because I'm not a chef and I need to be told how long to cook things and at what temperature. I also stick to mainly processed meats, that's because I really don't know how to prepare meats myself. And working full time, the butchers are usually closed when I finish work.

But then I read this really well put together book on everything I ever wanted to know about meat. It takes you through what each cut of an animal is, what is the best one to use and also gives recipes on how to cook it.

The book is split into sections dealing with: beef, lamb, pork, chicken, duck and game, and also roasts, grills and barbecues, special occasions and stuffings, sauces, stocks and sides. It is nearly 300 hundred pages of detail. The book describes how to select meat - what to look for, how to store meat, how you can be a home butcher.

It also isn't all about the most expensive cut of meat, it details how to use the cheaper cuts. There is a decent section on steaks too, so you can find out which one is best.

The recipes are very detailed too. And there is a section on sides - beef dripping oven chips, buttery mash, honey roast parsnips etc. The section on stuffings also gives recipes, so rather than buying that nasty dry packet stuff that has probably been sitting on a shelf for a year, you can make your own from fresh ingredients.

Another section also tells you how to prepare the meat and carve a turkey/chicken, how to joint a chicken.

It also gives a UK to US glossary, did you know back bacon is known as Canadian bacon in the US or coriander is cilantro.

Just reading the book has given me to confidence to buy things like Ox tail and know how to prepare it.

Can thoroughly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of fun for 2 year olds and above, 22 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My two year old niece loves this. It is very well made and really colourful. As she is only two I hope that in time she will learn her colours with this and also use her logic to try and get the beads up and across the maze. Oh, yes, at last, a toy that doesn't need batteries and doesn't make any loud noises or lights up.

These puzzles are seen in quite a lot of places now and children always seem to make a bee-line for them.

The packaging does say for two years old and above.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not much better than previous version, 17 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have had an older version of this book, and it doesn't look like it has changed much.

The book is split into different sections: soups, kids favourites, everyday favourites, easy cheats, food to impress, nostalgic puds and added extras. I'm not too sure what the cakes are going to be like cooked in a slow cooker, but will give them a try. I do prefer simple recipes too, in that I mean recipes with a handful of ingredients, so you can just dump everything into the slow cooker and set it away. But quite a lot of the recipes in here needs quite a lot of ingredients. Probably alright if you have well stocked cupboards, but may be on the pricey side if you have to buy the ingredients for each recipe. Most of the recipes also serve four people, so will be easy to up or down scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely high quality, 11 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Extremely high quality and excellent value for money.

The cushion cover is made of cotton and has an 'invisible' zip, this just means you can't really see the zip. The quality of the print on the cushion cover is very good, and it does look like an oil painting.

These cushion covers come from Hong Kong, and are definitely worth the wait. They took a few weeks to arrive, but would definitely buy again.

These cushion covers are extremely good value for money.

They have an 'invisible' zip, which means you can't really see it. They are made out of cotton and the print is really detailed.

As these are sent from Hong Kong the only downside is the wait for delivery, but believe me the quality and price is second to none and makes them completely worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let there be light, 5 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is quite a smart little light. I have got it next to my PC, but I am tempted to get rid of my table lamps in the living room and just have this off to one corner.

The main issue I had with this is that the light is very slow to react if you use the touch controls on the front of the lamp. The instruction booklet you get is very small and doesn't really tell you much. The lamp as well as having a temperature (in Celsius or Fahrenheit), also displays the time and date. These remain on the screen even when the light is switched off. However, you can actually fold the light down to cover these. The light even has an alarm that is quite easy to set with different alarm tones.

The different shades of light go from bright white, sort of orange/dull white, to a clean white bordering on blue.

The base is weighted and has a felt like base so should be kind to your furniture. The light itself is quite big, from base to the tip of the light is 77cm, folded down it is 45cm. The light can be folded down and the lamp be rotated so you don't have to have a full bright light in your face. It is also dimmable, which is perfect if you just need a little bit of light.

There are touch controls on the front of the lamp as well as buttons on the back which you use to set the date and time etc. As it is an LED light, the running costs are minimal too.

This will be very handy if you enjoy crafting, especially cross stitch as you can angle the light and have a very clean light too. I can't praise this light highly enough, and can already think of about ten things I would be using it for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very powerful and small, 5 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I love this little cleaner. One thing I will say, this will NOT replace your main cleaner. This is really a handheld cleaner in the body of an upright, so although it has very good suction, it hasn't got the same power as an upright. Now bearing that in mind, it is an excellent little cleaner. It is very handy for cleaning up minor dirt, for example, if you have spilled some rice in the kitchen, rather than getting a big cleaner out, get this out and it will do the job.

The cleaner comes charged, but it will charge fully in five hours and the running time is around 45 minutes, which is more than enough time to clean my one bedroom flat. This would actually be perfect in a caravan as it takes up very little room. The handheld part of the cleaner comes out very easily with the press of a button, and with the crevice tool, you can clean the car seats, the stairs, with the brush attachment on you will be able to clean skirting boards etc.

The cleaner is incredibly easily to assemble, everything (apart from the main handle) clicks onto the body. The main handle screws onto the main body, but you don't even need a screw driver to attach it. I used a 5p coin to remove the screw, fit the handle and then screw it into place.

When it comes to cleaning, there are two speeds, fast and slow, these speeds are changed by pressing a button in the handle. You can tell when you have changed speed as the sound of the motor is noticeably different. My mother, who is in her mid 60s tried it out and was so impressed I promised to get her one. It will mean she doesn't have to carry a big cleaner upstairs and will allow her to clean the stairs without fear of tripping over power cords.

If you take this for what it is, a handheld cleaner in an upright body, then you will no doubt be satisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starter pack, if you are preparade to pay for the replacement heads, 28 Feb. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have been using Gillette razors for absolutely years now. In fact, probably since I was in my early 20s. I don't shave that often so each pack of blades can last me months.

If you have any of the Fusion razor handles, then you definitely don't need to buy this, as all Gillette Fusion heads will fit onto all Fusion handles.

But, this will make a very good starter pack for teenagers who are just starting to shave. As long as they don't mind stumping up for the replacement heads after.

So, in the pack you get the handle and four heads - one on the razor and three additional heads. The handle is not a power handle, but you can bet Gillette are working on launching that in the next few months (probably in times for Fathers day).

The heads themselves have a lubricating strip before and after the blades. I haven't really felt the effect myself of the chill, but the purpose is to cool the skin to prevent irritation. They also have an edge trimmer which allow you to trim sideburns or edge around beards or moustaches. The heads are very simple to replace, but are quite expensive.

A very good starter package, if you are willing to pay for the replacement heads.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good shave if you are prepared to pay for it, 28 Feb. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
So, if you want the best you have to pay for it. And do you have to pay for it when you go for Gillette.

I always think of Gillette as the Apple of the razor world. They are always bringing out new versions with very little difference.

Now the good thing about Gillette though, is that the razor heads will fit onto other Gillette handles. I have the Fusion Power handle and these heads fit right in. So, although you can buy the handle that goes with the blade, you don't have to.

Onto the razor itself then. It is a standard razor, but with the added benefit of lubrication at both sides of the razor. It does make it a bit easier to glide over your skin. Not too sure the 'chill' technology works as good as it should though, as I don't keep the razor on my skin for that long. This blade also has the edge trimmer that all Fusion razors have had.

I don't shave every day, but instead use it a few times a week, but I have found to be on par with the Fusion razor heads.

200 Light Sugar-free Recipes: Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook (Hamlyn All Colour Cookery)

4.0 out of 5 stars Not truly sugar free, 28 Feb. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Although this book claims to have sugar free recipes, it's not strictly true. Yes, everything has sugar in it, but what it should state is no added sugar. But even then, some of the recipes still require you to add honey, which is of course sugar in liquid form.

The book is split into three different sections, recipes under 200, 300 and 400 calories. In each section the recipes just appear to be jumbled together, so there is no separation of sweet and savoury. I would have much preferred to have each section separated between starters, mains and desert/drinks.

I have had a look through the book and there are several recipes for cakes. Quite a few recipes need coconut oil or Agave nectar, so not sure these are suitable for anyone on a tight budget.

SO if like me, you are diabetic, it is a good starter, but of course as it clearly doesn't state it's a diabetic cookbook, you may only find some of the recipes of any use.
