4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but expensive, 10 April 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is quite a good technical description of the QE2. Goes into fair detail about the history of its building and also the various upgrades, both technical (the engine upgrade of 1986) and aesthetic (Public area upgrades etc.)
Quite expensive however, although I purchased mine through a cheaper intermediary.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but doesn't last very long...., 17 Feb. 2017

Interesting gadget for a few months although its accuracy is suspect. Also mine lasted about a year before the rubber casing detached from the internals so I cannot vouch for its longevity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great item - but watch the price fluctuations, 17 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very pleased with this item. However be warned regarding the price as this seems to chop and change almost daily like flights. I unfortunately paid full price and noticed the following week I could have got a £100 discount! I then noticed that it had gone up again to almost full price and then appeared to drop considerably the following week.

A-Z Cars of the 1990's
A-Z Cars of the 1990's
by Graham Robson
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £22.75

4.0 out of 5 stars Great follow on in the series, 25 Nov. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A-Z Cars of the 1990's (Hardcover)
Great follow on from the other A-Z books in the series. The format is the same - picture of each car, spec and a short summary. Now there are even a few colour pages. The book also has a good quality binding and print as per previous incarnations.

What Fresh Lunacy is This?: The Authorized Biography of Oliver Reed
What Fresh Lunacy is This?: The Authorized Biography of Oliver Reed
by Robert Sellers

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good biography, 11 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
By far the best biography of Reed, this biography probably does most to get into Reed's mindset. Unlike most dipsomaniac actors who fell into the depths of the bottle, Ollie Reed appears to have been able to make a choice - drink to excess and make a nuisance of himself or knuckle down and be one of the most sought after actors around the world. There is no doubt that Reed was able to switch off his gargantuan appetite for booze at will, and seldom drank on his own, but he basically liked having fun and alcohol was his way of kicking back. This book is great in that, although his antics were sometimes hilarious to read about, it pulls no punches in also portraying Reed as an intimidating, offensive, bullying and dangerous character when in his cups. Some people loved him and were able to work with him regularly like Ken Russell and Michael Winner, but many film-makers and actors grew tired of his behaviour and never wanted to work with him again. The book draws a lot of insights from his brothers, children and ex-wives. It is such a shame that he died after his successful 'final chance' to relight his career in Gladiator which was never built upon.

Some Kind of Hero: The Remarkable Story of the James Bond Films
Some Kind of Hero: The Remarkable Story of the James Bond Films
by Matthew Field
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £21.86

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 28 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A pretty damn good book - easy reading and great insight into the history and making of the JB films. I consider myself an aficionado and am often slightly disappointed when a certain fact is left out or wrongly stated. I didn't feel this at all with this book and learned quite a few new facts in the process. Definitely one for fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars this is probably the best book detailing the XK series, 19 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Purely on a information basis, this is probably the best book detailing the XK series.
*WARNING* This is an update of the XK8 (X100) edition of the book which includes a new section on the X150 models, not a stand alone edition on the X150.

Aigle Parcours 2 Iso, Unisex-Adults' Wellington Boots
Aigle Parcours 2 Iso, Unisex-Adults' Wellington Boots
Price: £90.29 - £228.07

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good boots, 14 Jan. 2016
The soles fell off my Hunters (which I only had a year) so I tried Aigle. Brilliant fit and very comfortable. Additionally, after 3 years of fairly hard use and lack of care they haven't cracked or leaked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for those interested in the marque, 11 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Anyone who wants to know a bit more about the Bristol marque should definitely read this. It isn't cheap - £25 would be better value. However books on Bristol Cars tend to be highly sought after - even the fairly recent Balfour book - because they only have a short print run. Keep it for a few years and you will have people fighting over it on Ebay as the price passes £100. The only criticisms I can level at it are that some of the editing seems a bit rushed in places and the models are not presented in a chronological order by year which in my personal OCD opinion it should naturally do. The 412 and Beaufighter oddly appear early on in the book before the 411 (when in fact it should appear afterwards). The Beaufighter should appear after the 603....and so on. Maybe die hard Bristol aficionados see differently? I This probably reflects the innate eccentricity of Bristol Cars themselves. However with their up and coming relaunch it seems fitting that a book comes out to promote their heritage

Laika
Laika

4.0 out of 5 stars Desperately sad, but a fantastic graphic novel, 22 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Laika (Paperback)
Really whether I liked the book is subjective. We all like our emotional senses being stretched whether it is being scared or eating a hot curry. However I hate being sad and it probably wasn't therefore wise to read this book as stories with animals as the protagonists have always upset me whether it is Ring of Bright Water or Kes. This is also much different because it is a graphic novel - the succinct drawings convey the sadness of Laika's predicament much better than words, especially as Laika is portrayed purely as a dog and, quite rightly, we see her reactions as we imagine a dog would react. The fact I was almost sobbing like a baby at various points throughout and was haunted by the story for several days afterwards probably means that Nick Abadzis has probably gained the effect he wanted entirely. Make no mistake, this is a heart-breaking story and the cliches in relation to lost dogs and false hope are thrown at you by the bucketload. It is sad also partly because we know that half the story is based on fact and we know Laika's ultimate fate and the futility of the mission she did and the trust she must have placed in her handlers. After reading this, I would like to think she is now enjoying a blissful existence somewhere in the afterlife as an icon of animal heroes together with other animals who have died in the duty serving humans in war and testing!
