5.0 out of 5 stars Magical Music, 24 April 2012
This review is from: Unmasked (Audio CD)
This Cd is simply magical. John Owen-Jones has one of the most beautiful voices I've heard in a very long time and he puts so much emotion and acting into the songs, they tell you a story and touch your heart. Every track is rewarding and some will become favourites, one of the most beautiful and emotional versions of Hallelujah I've ever heard. Another worth the album price on its own is Till I Hear You Sing. If you buy one CD to last for years, make it this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars COMING OF AGE, 16 Nov. 2002
Being familiar with both of Russell Watson's CDs I was eager to hear the third. And it does not disappoint in the slightest, this is, indeed, the coming of age of the artist. It is a beautifully produced CD, with well selected tracks and exquisite balance between vocal and instrumental lines.
Of the arias "Pourquoi me reveiller?" and "Vesti la giubba" are the standouts, they will tear at your heart. "Questa o quella" demonstrates the vocal strides he has made since the Leeds concert and "Recondita armonia" is a lovely version of a beautiful aria. The "Pearl Fishers" duet is an amazing achievement. "That's Amore", "Core 'ngrato" and "Ave Maria" are destined to be favourites, all for different reasons and "The Best that Love Can be", a duet with Cleopatra Higgens, is gorgeous, the two voices harmonize so well. "La Danza" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" are, perhaps, the bravest tracks on the CD and he is up to the challenge on both occasions. The backing vocals on "Nothing Sacred" and "Boh Rap" will thrill.
If I have a reservation, I would have liked a little more variation in the volume in "Santa Lucia", but that is a very small reservation amongst a whole room full of bouquets. There is something for every mood and the incredible versatility of this astonishing artist is well displayed. Not the least because he produced it himself, perhaps the most laudable achievement of all. If you approach music with an open mind and heart, you will find everything you require in this CD.
