This review is from: Here Come The Nice (Audio CD)
This new box set pretty much contains every version of every song recorded by the Small Faces during their Intermediate years i.e. in their best period. It is expensive but the music and the extras make it well worth it as the Small Faces are among the very greatest and most influential of British bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible, 8 April 2014

This is an original guide to a world now disappeared, the world of the smoke-filled Folk Clubs where authentic folk music flourished and developed. Interviews with key figures in the British folk movement bring a lost magical world alive. A wonderful book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine biography., 31 Aug. 2013

There have been quite a few works in recent years on the Kinks, who are one of the greatest of English rock bands. This work covers much ground, and is notable for its insights into the personalities and personal lives of the Davies brothers that fuelled their drive and their success. It follows the traditional emphasis on the early success of the 1960s rather than the later US success. A very worthwhile book all the same,

The Ultimate Sacrifice
The Ultimate Sacrifice
by Paul Sanders
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Tales of Channel Island resistance, 23 Jun. 2013

This review is from: The Ultimate Sacrifice (Paperback)
Paul Sanders' book tells the story of the "Jersey 22", those brave men and women of Jersey who stood up to the Nazis during the World War Two occupation and paid with their lives. These include the compelling tale of my grandfather Frederick William Page (aka White), a civilian strawberry grower from Portsmouth who was turned in by the British police to the Nazis for owning two wireless sets to listen to BBC broadcasts on. After a Kangaroo trial in which he courageously challenged the German court, he was sentenced with six others to prison in Germany, where he died eighteen months later as a consequence of the conditions. This story, and several others, Sanders tells with compassion, but also with academic rigour and discipline. The work is the result of outstanding historical detective work, and indeed redresses the idea of more spurious works that Jerseymen and women were all collaborators during that island's five year ordeal at the hands of the Germans. This book therefore comes highly recommended to a general audience as well as a work of academic integrity.
