Nomad: The Most Explosive Thriller You'll Read All Year (The Rubicon series)
Nomad: The Most Explosive Thriller You'll Read All Year (The Rubicon series)
by James Swallow
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £5.49

3.0 out of 5 stars Clichéd, predictable and a lot of fun..., 22 Jun. 2016
Marc Dane is the hero. He is the lone survivor of a bungled MI5/MI6 operation, his role is that of a tech surveying the operation from a van. He gets hung out to dry by the British government and becomes a fugitive. He is eventually supported by The Rubicon Group who are tracking The Combine who have moles in British intelligence. It is worth a read for such a reasonable price and the story has some excellent action scenes.

The let down for me is that Marc Dane finds himself in life threatening situations in almost every chapter. He is up against experienced mercenaries, terrorists and governments yet I never had the impression he was ever in the danger that the scene represented. The dialogue stated he was 'lucky' several times, maybe so but in stating that it highlighted how incompetent the bad guys were. Overuse of the word 'owlishly' was a bit annoying.

It is a decent read, lots of action and a few times it made me laugh. The price is cheap, even cheaper on Kindle and for that it is well worth a read. I don't think I would read the follow up. I Am Pilgrim is my next read and I do hope Nomad isn't the better one...

A very good introduction. The story is short but that is one of its qualities. It is wrote very much like a TV series and ends with a cliff hanger. I like the main character Steve, I imagine most of us men would act exactly like him in the event of a zombie apocalypse. I also like how the story is told from the beginning, in terms of how Steve prepares. I'll be straight on to book 2. Well worth a read.

An incredible book to read, very difficult to put down. Mexican drug cartels v the DEA with a whole bunch of other stuff thrown in. The story is violent and graphic. The characters are more than likeable. The dialogue is witty and direct. Rather than write about what takes place in the book, simply read the synopsis, buy and read it - then buy The Cartel to continue the story. The best book I've read in a while.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled..., 10 Oct. 2013

I haven't read the book yet, I received it today...I am writing the review to inform other readers that the book advertised is not this one, it is part of it.
When I pre-ordered it stated 345 pages - The Fall of the Governor. This book is 245 pages long and now titled - The Fall of the Governor PART ONE....Perhaps the creators realised at the last minute that we (the readers) would discover the fate of The Governor before Season 4 started or maybe they think we are a bunch of zombies and won't notice the rip off...

Appalling treatment of fans...As for Amazon, they notified me on Wednesday that the original pre-order had been dispatched...Customer service here I come...

Apocalypse of the Dead
Apocalypse of the Dead
by Joe McKinny
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Getting better..., 24 Sept. 2013
The action was frantic from the start and introduced some interesting and complex characters. The story had a strong religious theme with a preacher (Jasper) who was able to walk among the dead without threat, he was also able to arrange transport, building supplies etc in a world that was devastated. He was unconvincing - he had a strong cult following and they set up a village away from the cities. My favourite character Michael Barnes was strong, ruthless and efficient. Nate was immune to a zombie bite and cast as a possible cure for the infection. Ed and Billy's relationship was a highlight of the story.

Several groups make their way to the safety of the Grasslands, each progressing through a series of near misses and losses. Some of the coincidences in the story were less believable than a Zombie Apocalypse but I'll let the reader work those out.

Without trying to spoil the book, the last 100 pages were a let down. Michael Barnes who struck me as independent and sceptical was brainwashed in a sentence. It sort of lost its way a bit.

Overall it was better than Dead City and hopefully Flesheaters will improve the story again. Not great but not bad either.

The price attracted me to this product...it looks and prints exactly the same as the branded and much more expensive one. I just put it in and it worked straight away. The printing quality is excellent once it settles in after a couple of prints. I will definitely buy again. Also very quick service.
