5.0 out of 5 stars Lost without it., 31 Oct. 2006
This review is from: Lost - Season 2 [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I loved the first season, but this one's even better. Apart from the present day action, the interweaving of the flashback storylines is more interesting and the back stories are more revealing about the characters. Also, now the Lost world is known and accepted, it's much easier to get drawn in and enjoy the show without constantly having to question why or how such and such could possibly be happening. Of course, there are the usual cliff-hangers and twists, but there're also a whole host of other characters introduced... oh, did I mention `other' there? Yes, we finally get more of a handle on those `others' guys - but I'm not going to say in what way and spoil the fun for you.

Some of the characters also get it on - finally. Who'd have thought it would take so long, stranded on a desert island with nothing to do? The hatch is fully explored. There are some truly surprising plot elements - remember Boone? Enough said!

But don't go thinking you can come to this season and every question you had in the first is going to be answered. Some will be, but those will only be replaced by far more teasing and perplexing questions than you ever thought possible.

Season 3 just can't start too soon as far as I'm concerned. Until then, I'll make do with the first two seasons on DVD.

So, if you fancy a trip to an adult Alice in Wonderland, get Lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure joy., 31 Oct. 2006
Okay, that obviously doesn't refer to the demeanour of the central character, but this is just the best thing on TV. I don't really care how medically accurate it is, or if any hospital on the planet ever has so many serious cases time and again, or even if a doctor with such extensive knowledge has ever, will ever, or even could ever really exist. All I care about is the incredible dynamics created between the central players. As for the dialogue? Man, the dialogue is beyond equal on TV today. House has throwaway lines that other shows would kill for, but there are just so many, I'm sure most viewers simply don't realise how clever it is. It really is one of the funniest shows on TV, even though it's not a comedy.

Hugh Laurie and the script writers have done such an incredible job bringing House to life. God knows how the writers come up with all the possible diseases and cures, but it never seems a stretch to go with them. And all the while, House is there to deliver acidic lines to tantalize the viewer and keep the show crackling along.

House is a rare treat. Get it. Savour it. Love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very, very average., 31 Oct. 2006
This was an excellent idea for a show. Pity about what they came up with. I don't know if they had a very small budget but the effects weren't up to much by today's standards. The storylines seemed to get weaker as the weeks went on. The acting wasn't particularly anything special, merely enough to get by. Like I said, very, very average. There was so much scope here that the writers should have been spoiled for choice, but in the end I didn't really care about any of the characters or seeing any of their situations resolved.

When you look at other shows with paranormal, other-worldly elements, like Lost or The X-Files, you realise just how average this really is. Have I said `average' enough yet to get the message across?

Don't come to this show expecting anything special, but if you've a few hours to kill and a few bucks to burn, try it. You never know, you might see more than I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars 24 does the impossible... it just gets better and better., 31 Oct. 2006
If only all TV shows could be written with such sharp plotting and dialogue. And talk about twists and turns. Who'd ever have expected .................... to happen??? Not only thrilling, but touching! Exciting, but thought provoking. Action-packed, yet with sensitivity. This really is the cream of TV shows. If you've never seen it, get a couple of six-packs, take the phone of the hook, and settle down for a weekend-long roller coaster ride like you've never known.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything a TV show should be!, 31 Oct. 2006
24 has to be the most thrilling show on TV. If you're tired of shows like Lost or Desperate Housewives, which while good, seem to take perverse pleasure in beating around the bush to the point where you want to put a brick through the screen, take a look at 24. This is how TV should be made. Sharp dialogue. Sharp Characters. Sharp action. But that's not the best of it! What's the most riveting and yet satisfying aspect of 24? The fact that something happens week in week out and, at the end of the series, instead of EVERYTHING building to a cliff-hanger with which to tease you till the start of the next season, 24 delivers the goods and resolves the entire season's storyline. What could be more satisfying? Season 4 is superb. Once you slap a disk in your DVD player, it's so difficult to turn the thing off and stop watching - you just want to keep going and going and... What greater compliment to everyone concerned in its production.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very practical, 5 May 2006
I would recommend this book to anyone who has or works with AS children. It has given me a better understanding of their limitations and allowed me to stretch my boundaries even further. I can only assure anyone reading this that this little book will give you strength to carry on, even when you think you can't take anymore.Every parent should have this book. A must read for special education teachers, therapists and other autism professionals too.
