4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading BUT........, 13 Mar. 2007
The Book was great. But i do feel that there are SOME PROBLEMS with this book. Deffinately worth reading though. on the synopsis segment of the Amazon page it doesnt quite give what i found particularly interesting. Michael Asher (ex-Para and 23 SAS)follows the footsteps of those in the B20 Mission to De-bunk its Rambo like myths and see if it is actually true. People argue, rightly to a degree, that Mr.Asher wrote this 10 years after the mission and that how can this guy (Asher) claim to know the truth behind the B20 misson when he had no part of it.

That was one of the reasons why Asher wanted to investigate for himself of how can a very very professional soldier be called by someone who has not come close to the what Vince was, a Cowardly, Incompetent, Unprofessional member of the Patrol.

I do agree with this, actually saying at one point "Talk about ego, This guy wants to set out and prove a couple of fellow Blades were lying and that Mr.Asher would find the truth". BUT.... when i read the first few pages he actually had the same problems with B20 and The one that got away as i had.

I pesonally hated the way Chris Ryan wrote about SGT.Vince Phillips (one of the dead patrol members)even though he had "Sort of" apologised for the way he portrayed Vince. Vince was nearing the end of his 22 year service with the Army. He was an extremely fit(champion marathoner) and an extremely professional senior NCO. He had served with the Paras and the Commando Brigade, then entering the SAS. he was more a seasoned soldier than Mcnab and most definately the new arrival Ryan. When Ryan slandered and BLAMED the failiure of the mission on Vince i found that a very hard pill to swallow (calling Ryan a T*at whilst reading his exploit actually), he was even calling Vince Incompetent, Unprofessional and Cowardly. You NEVER, ever slander and stab a fellow soldier in the back especially when they are dead and have no way to answer back. It goes against the grain of an unwritten soldiers creed of which i and my fellow mates live by.

I do commend Ryan for his increadible 200 mile treck across the desert and the torturous events of the other four members who were caught. I do like the books and i cant and wont comment on whats true and whats not because its not my place to, BUT i hated the way a Ryan treated Vince. And so do a lot of other fellow soldiers.

second was Michael Asher felt that the professionalism and greatness of the SAS was in trouble and hoped to prove otherwise. They are the main reasons why Asher wanted to investigate but he also found interesting Revelations about the mission.

SBS: The Inside Story of the Special Boat Service
SBS: The Inside Story of the Special Boat Service

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY VERY INTERESTING, 14 Jan. 2007
I find the SBS much more interesting than the SAS because they seem to love being in the shadows, unlike their SAS sisters. And i find that much more interesting than the nuts out shoot them up and call it a day sas book.

It dives deep in to SBS history from their foundings to todays operations. The book has lots of good photographs and diagrams showing maps and recon drawings. They are every bit as daring and brave as the SAS but they seem to use their patience and brains to execute their missions.(no disrespect to the sas)

the book is a must buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars WHERE IS THE STUFF ABOUT THE BLOODY PARAS, 14 Jan. 2007
This review is from: Airborne [DVD] (DVD)
Its on for a lengthy 3 hours or so. It has some interesting interviews with the Airborne WW2 veterans (British and American). I Was really enjoying it and was expecting a good portion of the DVD to have a t least a lengthy part about the PARAS (they should being that theres a friggin PARA on the front). All that was said about the PARAS was basically what you can allready find out from their website (including the video footage).

I was hoping for a lengthy segment about the paras and their training. All that was said was "The training is the toughest the British Army has to offer...." and thats it. Well....wheres the rest. I know its about all airborne forces but they could have done ALOT better. They didnt even talk about past deployments like the Falklands or Bloody Sunday or Todays deployment to Afghanistan and Iraq. There was nothing.

What also Peeved me off was it focused more on the American airborne. THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY AIRBORNE FORCE IN THE WORLD. They went really indepth with them and couldnt give a ...... about us. I had spent a lot of money for my copy. £16.95 from the airborne forces shop. Not only do i feel like a mug but i also feel they let me and our boys down.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, WOW AND ANNOTHER WOW!, 24 Dec. 2006
This review is from: Bloody Heroes (Hardcover)
I read the authors previous book "operation certain death" and thoroughly enjoyed it. He doesnt dissapoint on this. It sounds like a movie "8 SBS MEN VS 500 TALIBAN TERRORISTS! WHO WILL SURVIVE"... but because there is plenty of photographs of the battle in the book and the internet (There is a video on youtube showing the SBS lads battling it out with the taliban) It most certainly washes out any doubt to such a story, It reminds you of how increadible these men are. Icreadibly tough and supremely strong minded men amidst and living in the harshest and most dangerous place on earth. Not only that but its a welcome break from the usual SAS book. Its a well deserved portrayal of their heroic actions on page. We dont hear very much about these folks. And thats what makes this book so Bloody brilliant. Check out the hundreds of pics and videos of the battle on the Web. Buy the book, you wont be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mae hen Wlad fy nhadau yn annwyli i mi (The old land of my fathers is dear to me), 24 Dec. 2006
This review is from: Voices of the Valley (Audio CD)
WHEN LAND OF MY FATHERS IS ON THE HIGHEST VOLUME ON THE HI-FI, THE HAIRS STAND AND THE GOOSE FLESH APPEARS AND THE HAND GOES TO MY HEART. ITS A VERY PATRIOTIC SONG FOR MYSELF AND WELSH MEN AND WOMEN ALIKE. As soon as "Sailing" starts to play i have images of the Falklands War (I wasnt born then, i was here in 87, but my mum always said "ooh, it reminds me of when our lads went to the Falklands, they played this song many times")so as a fellow PARA i feel very proud of our lads in all services of the forces. The whole album is a beauty and should be heard by everyone. and i mean everyone. Phenominal heart wrentching beauty. BLOODY BRILLIANT MUN!

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY WELL MADE BUT CHRIST ITS DEPRESSING, 24 Dec. 2006
This review is from: United 93 [DVD] (DVD)
From the very start you already know no poor bugger survived the flight so that immediately puts you in the deprssion seat. There arent any miraculous escapes. No increadible Tricks by God. They crash, They die and you already know what happens next. BUT!! There were planty of moments where i was on the edge of my seat yelling at the screen for th passengers to rush the terrorists. I wanted to watch this because Paul Greengrass directed and wrote the screenplay (he Directed The bourne supremacy and Bloody Sunday)and to great relief he hasnt lost his touch of making a bloody good piece of work.

G I R L F R I E N D / F I R S T D A T E OR IF Y O U P L A N N I N G A C H I R P Y N I G H T I N. its seriously good, but seriously depres sing. Watch it with a box of boogey wipes.

Highway to Hell
Highway to Hell

5.0 out of 5 stars DONT DISMISS THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!, 24 Dec. 2006
This review is from: Highway to Hell (Hardcover)
What an increadible read. Wow!. I am training for the paras and whilst bending my eyes over countless books, HIGHWAY TO HELL blazed out like a sore thumb. It had a review from an ex SAS man, Mike Curtis (who wrote C.Q.B -Also a phenominal read) and it explains how he fought along side Geddes in the Falklands then Selection together, and later on into Private Security work. So i eagerly baught and read the whole thing in one day. It had grabbed my by the lapels of my shirt and would not let me put it down.

From the increadible first few pages where Geddes is in a 4X4 with his driver and friend Ahmed protecting a News Crew when Geddes notices a Black BMW 7 series follow up behind him rather quickly then the passengers harras him, sticking an AK-47 out of the window and putting holes in the bonnet of the 4X4. But Mr. Geddes has a Toy lying on his lap waiting to put holes in them. TRUST ME, THIS IS NOT JUST SOME EGO INFLATED ONLY USEFUL AS AN ARSE WIPE NOVEL, IT IS PURE BRILLIANCE.

Its only 240 pages which is perfect because its just total perfection. Jammed with tons of action, scary "bumped" moments (been reading too many Forces Bios i think lol) and Humour and oooooh! a guest appearance of MIKE CURTIS, a fellow SAS bloke who also has an epic bio. I ATE, SLEPT, SAT ON THE BOG, ALMOST SHOWERED WITH THIS BOOK, I COULDNT PUT IT DOWN. GET IT, GET IT, GET IT, GET IT, GET IT, GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge Muscles, Massive guns, Bulky armour and ver Bad Ass, 5 Dec. 2006
i havent played such an awesome game in a long time. Very addictive and very bad ass. The whole sci-fi look on the cover had me a little swayed but im so glad i got it. Its Full of War, Blood, Guts, Guns, plenty of Ammo, Plenty of bad guys and only comparable to Private Ryan crossed with Warhammer with a hint of coolness.

very simple :
