3.0 out of 5 stars It does everything it claims - but what do I do with it?, 19 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It is stunning and really could point the way forward ... but I have some serious hesitations.

I bought it in the hope that it might convert my (distant) desk screen into a touch screen. (I toyed with an actual touch screen but I don't want a 22"+ "in my face" and I don't want the desk area behind the screen to become a no-man's land.) It actually works but

a) You need the right add-on software (but it is free!)
b) it is quite a strain to hold your hand in the correct way for any amount of time
c) I found the "mouse click" action almost impossible to get to work.

If you want it for some basic games, these are available (and I assume more will come along in time).

If you want it as a style statement, there a few fun apps (demos, really) which will wow your friends.

A great technology but it's actual function needs to be more clearly articulated.

Existence
Existence
by David Brin
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Big theme with big ambition but not Brin's best, 19 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Existence (Paperback)
Well written (as you'd expect from Brin) but with some major holes of logic.

Some likeable characters.

A bit of a non-ending, in my opinion.

I would recommend it but you might find it a bit hard going at times.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another action SF with zombies, 19 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For a first novel, this is well written and I considered 4 stars. However, it's a fairly contrived plot to create the action. If you like action novels you will probably like this one but don't expect it to overwhelm you.

Illegal Alien
Illegal Alien
by Robert J Sawyer
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Not his best but enjoyable, 7 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You expect a good read from Sawyer, and this won't disappoint - but not one of his best - and a bit predictable in parts.

Pyrotex Oven Gloves - Colour: Black. Sold in pairs.
Pyrotex Oven Gloves - Colour: Black. Sold in pairs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much more flexible than normal oven gloves, 7 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I looked everywhere for gloves that would cover the whole forearm (for reaching into a deep oven). These aren't quite there, but pretty effective. They certainly imsulate well and seem durable. I've docked one star because the hands aren't terribly flexible (which can be a nuisance) but that's being rather demanding. Recommended.

IT735U3 e-SATA / USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA HDD w/ USB3 & e-SATA Cables

Price: £17.98

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy fit; does the job, 7 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Just pop the lid and the hard disk fits in snuggly. You can run it on both USB and eSATA (though I haven't tried the latter). It loses one star because the documentation is really sketchy and the wierd USB lead that came with it didn't work (but standard A-to-B USB did).

They *did* provide a French adapter for the UK plug, which woulod have given them an extra half star, if I could.
For the price, can't really complain.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Apple-like keyboard for the PC, 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This goes everywhere with my laptop (which has a virtual keyboard only). It works really well. It has scrabble type keys with adequate travel. Purists might find both travel and response a bit limited but, given it's miniature nature and portable role, it's fine. It certainly works well (and has all the normal PC keys).

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent prequel for Morse affectionados, 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really didn't know what to expect from this but, since I enjoyed the Morse series, it offered one more bite of the cherry. And I wasn't disappointed.

Evans was given a very difficult role to interpret and some might have considered him a bit wooden, but I thought he did well on the whole. He had to explain Morse's odd origins as well as the beginning of his migration to the character we know. (Did you know he was tee-total at the start of his career?) Complete with a cameo appearance of John Thaw!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unchallenging period drama, 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I discovered Majory Allingham (and Campion) many years ago and caught a few of these when they first appeared on tele (and I thought Davison carried the character well).

In fact, some of the acting (and, I fear, direction) in these were dire - especially the earlier ones. But that didn't detract from my uncritical enjoyment overall.
