5.0 out of 5 stars A must for 'serious' English language students, 19 Jan. 2012
This album compiled by Del Close and John Brent in the late 50's, is a measure by measure instruction course on how to speak as the Beat Generation of Kerouak. The surprising thing is how much of the 'cool' hipster-phraseology, has now passed into modern, day to day parlance. Phrases such as, 'put down' ( to demean), 'come down'(from drugs) and the 'come on' (attracted a pretty girl). Fascinating, interesting and most of all, very funny. Hard to believe this comedic recording is over 60yrs old as it seems so 'fresh' and relevant to the hip-hop generation..

2.0 out of 5 stars Where and when were Chris Rea's Blues roots?, 10 Oct. 2011
This review is from: The Santo Spirito Blues (Audio CD)
Bought this album hoping to hear something different from Chris Rea, but as the man from the 'Beeb' says, it's kinda lost it's 'bluesy' way.
The guitar style is often repetetive, or deja-vu slidework heard from previous albums, the kind played better by Rea's fellow Middlesbrough
'home-boy' guitar-maestro, Micky Moody (ex-Whitesnake) who had a real blues-band background early on in his career
with iconic blues-singer Paul Rodgers. However, there is the question of Rea's own 'Voice' which is undoubtedly a great blues-instrument
even if his speaking voice, in the promo-interviews, seems a tad pastiche... i.e.of a 'rough' Middlesbrough accent.
Strange, considering his ice-cream dynasty family evidently came from the high-end 'right side' of the blues-tracks!

5.0 out of 5 stars There are those who know good female singers, and there are those who are sold them., 22 Aug. 2011
This review is from: 37 Days (DVD) [2008] (DVD)
What can there be left to say about Beth Hart? Incredible lyrics that are not obscure or as deep as the sea, but totally reflect the disappointments, tragedy and trauma that can all become combined in both loving and living in each of our own lives, and possibly those less fortunate. Add to this her vocal delivery of a stunning quality and power that squeezes each minute drop of emotion from every song and performance and I am left stunned that her presence in the world of UK radio and Album promoters seems neglected to the point of Beth Hart being ostracised! I act like an evangelist for her music amongst my acquaintances who inevitably say "...but, is she as good as Adele?' That's the same Adele who was pummelled into the brain of the UK music-buying public by round the clock TV commercials and radio-play for her '21' album, to the point that people inevitably started believing the hype. By contrast, and in almost 9-years of listening to Beth Hart I've heard her music played maybe only three-times on UK radio. It appears that Beth has poor representation in the UK, or the music industry here can fool most of the people...most of the time, by drip feeding them unashamed mediocrity instead of raging talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars This ain't dinner party music...it has something to say!, 1 July 2011
This review is from: East Of Angel Town (Audio CD)
Pure genius, I cannot understand why I came to this album so late having purchased Mr Cincotti's first album back in 2004. O.K., it's easy to see why it's content can be contrasted against Billy Joel ( please NOT Elton John!) but this album may indeed be better compared with Jackson Browne's work. Yeah, it's political to the point you hang on every well crafted word and stanza about American life, but it's also beautifully produced and arranged with Mr Cincotti's voice exploring a new dimension at almost every turn, whilst still allowing those 'jazz chops' to shine thru' whenever appropriate. The 'dinner party' background element of Peter Cincotti's early music has gone, he's moved on and away from Messrs Connick, Buble, Cullen. Now his music has something to say that's individual which in time could become quite unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 'must have' add-on to your Macbook, 25 May 2011
Convenient, practical, stylish and lightweight. This amazing piece of kit was purchased alongside an amazing matching aluminium Raine laptop stand. The keypad then stashes neatly under my laptop when on the stand producing a very pleasing and accessible 'group' on my desk when not in use. After paying nearly £1900 for a Macbook Pro the extra apprx. £100 for the stand and keypad is a very worthwhile investment .

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Macbook pairing., 20 May 2011
Fabulous piece of kit and used with my Macbook Pro. It's the option of Battery/Mains power that makes this speaker so unique (the D.200 Creative being only mains powered)
This isn't going to provide you with 'stadium' filling sound but is extremely acceptable, with decent low frequency response (bass) and very transportable around the home (inc. garden) or your apartment. In fact this speaker is so 'light' in weight that I would happily create a space in a large suitcase for use on vacation instead of the more accepted 'tinny' sounding travel-speakers I've owned. I bought a four-pack of AA batteries for a £1 and this speaker has been running all week, four hours per day without ever using the mains facility and is still going strong. At £50, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The stand Jonathan Ive would have designed for the Macbook?, 6 May 2011
This is a superb compliment to the solid aluminium casing of my Macbook Pro.

As stated, it is almost as though the much accoladed British designer at Apple Inc.'Jony ' Ive, had created it himself as part of a whole 'package' concept.
Your Macbook immediately resembles a piece of art-sculpture once placed upon it!.

However, aesthetic appeal aside, the stand provides a very sturdy platform, allowing the computer to seemingly float above the desktop,
the space beneath easily, and neatly, accommodating my wireless Apple keyboard.

Don't think any further about buying it, close your eyes, pay the money, and you'll certainly be delighted upon it's arrival.
