Sick On You: The Disastrous Story of Britain's Great Lost Punk Band
Sick On You: The Disastrous Story of Britain's Great Lost Punk Band
Price: £5.49

5.0 out of 5 stars The story of a great lost band, 23 July 2015

A great evocation of a lost time. I'm not sure if it's a comedy or a tragedy but it is very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Confessions of a punk fanboy, 5 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Like a lot others I bought this out of nostalgia for a long lost youth. Side 1 satisfies the punk fanboy with lots of eye-witness history of an era I loved from the outside. Then along comes side 2 and we have something very different. The story of a woman falling apart and rebuilding herself? It is painfully honest and also very well-written - a bit like her songs really.

Growing up in south London in the 1960s and 1970s could be a bitter-sweet experience and this book captures it perfectly. Reading it made me wish it wasn't all true but I suspect it was. Definitely worth a download.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Bear in Town, 5 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Binky in Trouble (Hardcover)
Move over Winnie, Paddington and Rupert, there's a new bear in town. Binky is very different though. Instead of the drawn art that we've grown to love we have photographs placing Binky in the real word. Admittedly it takes a little getting used to but it doesn't take long and then you are in Binky's world. My daughter loves having Binky read to her and we're going to get the first book asap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, 22 Oct. 2011

I recently used them on a UK to Australia flight and they worked well for the money. They didn't mask all of the engine noise but they made a noticeable difference - around 80% if I had to estimate. All in all they're well worth the price though I have never tested more expensive headphones against them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Tight to F**k, 29 Jan. 2006
You will probably want to buy this for the excellent Dead Kennedys tracks but there's another band on here that any fan of British punk rock will want to hear. The Tights were the first band on the Cherry Red records label and 16 years old back in 1978. It is fashionable now to say that punk died in 1978 but bands like The Tights prove that it was alive and kicking hard in '78. Bad Hearts is the stand out but China's Eternal and Howard Hughes will not disappoint either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 16 Oct. 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: As Is Now (Audio CD)
The two singles are among his best work ever but the rest of the album doesn't really match up. There's a few other good tracks but also some plodders. Worth having still but it could have been so much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best band ever, 16 Oct. 2005

The VIPs should have been huge but never quite made it unfortunately. Quarter Moon is a lost classic and this CD is worth getting for that track alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, 17 July 2001

Yes the ending is contrived and yes, it moved me to uncontainable tears. I would compare it to Birdsong but not favourably or unfavourably. They are both beautiful books that show that humanity can be heightened during terrible times. For once, believe the hype.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant evocation of Wimbledon Football Club in music, 10 Jan. 2000
This is a brilliant evocation of Wimbledon Football Club in music. The two tracks by The Reservoir Dons especially capture the majesty of a club that has shocked the world and captured the footballing public's imagination.
