This book depends on you. It wasnt for me. It was very long and in parts overflowing with description. I found 'In the Buddha's words by Bhikkhu Bodhi' a far more practical piece of work.

This book is very special. By studying its teachings you will understand the Buddha's full spectrum of teachings. A remarkable man. He understands the heart with such precision, he then points to life and how such understanding can be woven into the mind. This practice covers all circumstances and can be applied in all aspects of ethics, health, social, family, spiritual perspectives. His wisdom places your mind into a stream of ease. You get a feel for his remarkable gift to the world. A key to opening the door.

As an outsider looking in, we see abuse in isolation, little snippets here and there. We tell ourselves 'it will be ok, just a phase'. We go on with ourlives living in the clouds. But wait, What happens when you stop, pause and join the dots? Well, this book does just that! The survivors have pieced together the full story of the ugliest, evil veil that has plagued families for centuaries. It's message is brutally honest, it has to be. This is a wakeup call. You might be watching images on your telly and thinking 'oh, how terrible' in far away lands. But terrible is probably only a couple of houses away. If your a professional with your head in the clouds - get reading. If your a sufferer - be aware that this might invoke powerful emotional reactions. You might not be ready. Take it slow and seek advice and support.

2.0 out of 5 stars from a beat officer, 26 Aug. 2011

If your a beat officer, there is very little here for you. The basic's are covered, but all the intricate natures, psychology etc is bearly touched upon. As a police officer, I would recommend reading a cross section of books, if you really want to understand this issue. The authors have not achieved this. Its writting style is so ACPO!

2.0 out of 5 stars Emotional police work, 26 Aug. 2011
There is very little science in this book and the author gives his point of view as a veteran of law enforcement. This is debatable. He carves out his theory and squarely places the blame on his 'sold' theories. There is some good advice, although I wouldnt recommmend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight dialogue, 4 July 2011
Gregory Kramer describes interpersonal suffering with ease and depth, many buddhist authors focus on (birth, ageing, sickness and death) but Kramer goes further. My personal witnessing of human suffering uncovers the hungers that he describes, and here you will really begin to understand the real unnoticed level of human suffering. Our society tends to blame the obvious cause. He's is an alcoholic, the dreaded bottle, alcohol is the problem. Not so, the mind that craves alcohol and intoxication that's the issue here. Kramers writings untie many knots. He also goes further with regard to practice and offers the interpersonal realm. I am so with him on this one. I am a police officer and come across situations that require concentrated mindfulness and balance when faced with hostile and emotionally challenging situations. My spiritual training has been more developed when in the face of adversity and many insights have arose. Mindfulness is a 24 hour process and when practiced in this mindset where we begin to see, learn and offer a pervading sense of calm to any given moment. Thank you

You could read loads of books, spend your whole life searching and still miss the valuable teachings of the buddha. Or you could read this book and day by day, practice a little meditation and gradually develop your practice. This book alongside a ten day course will help you develop the insight needed to understand the written material. Once you have experienced some form of reality, your inner peace will develop. There is no doctrine or should do, could do here, its just practice. This book alonside meditation practice (not easy) can transform your life, every step or experience can be fully examined and transformed into peace. I am so glad that I found this small modest book. It really is the truth.
