Not Perfect...But Close, 28 Jan. 2004
There's been much revalation about this game as it was released before Project Gotham Racing 2 and some other top racing titles. But this is no run of the mill racer. Don't compare it because Need for Speed Underground is in its own genre.
Need for Speed Underground is an excellent game, very fast and will keep you playing for ages...and ages...and...well until u get fed up of playin over the same race over and over again.
This is my only reservation with this game, The Collision physics we're thrown out the window (I dont think a car can bounce! but they do), Collide with n e thing and you can say good bye to that lead! 'tut' just when u were leading that all important race aswell. There is now realism here.
And why do you always have to finish 1st? this is the only route possible... the whole structure of the game is very linear. If you Win u get points, come second or less and u have to restart the race until u come 1st. You find yourself replaying races time and time again. So gaining modifications for your car are very hard and tedious as you can ONLY UNLOCK them, and only then providing you have the cash can u buy and install.
Dont get me wrong its a Lush game, full of effects never seen B4. Just extremely poor collision physics which spoil it, and very linear mission objectives.
EA concentrated on the look n feel rather than the overall gameplay and lastability.
Obviously this game appeals to alot of ppl (wannabe Boyracers). Looks the Dogs Balls, plays well, Just can be a bit unrealistic and very tedious. Buy it, its great fun. it should come with a health warning though... because holding that right trigger down for 6 hrs aint clever ;)
