4.0 out of 5 stars My Family - The "ONCE" perfect comedy., 24 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

This fantastic comedy centres around a dysfunctional family from Chiswick. Ben is a moody dentist who "pretends" that he has know interest in the upbringing of he's children which creates many laughs. Susan is a middle aged (although she doesn't like to admit it)tour guide who wears the trousers in the family and makes dinner "unbearable" with her terrible cooking. Nick is easily described as an idiot, he leaps from job to job with no actual intention of leaving home which causes several conflicts between himself and Ben. Janey is the middle child who later drops out of university after she has a baby. She is fashion obsessed and at times moans that she is the poor relation in the family. Finally their is Michael who is the "geek" of the family, he soon becomes sex obsessed and eventually comes out as gay. Later characters include Abi, a dim witted relative of Ben. Roger, an annoying dentist who works with Ben. Alfie, a strange Welsh musician and Kenzo, the son of Janey.

Series 1 - A great start to the series, the comedy is more "old school" and Ben and Susan look somewhat young. "Farewell to Alarms" is by far the best episode but there are many to enjoy. 9.5/10

Series 2 - Successfully continues on from Series 1, all the characters are developed, Susan's cooking becomes even worse than it already has and Nick's list of endless jobs supplies us with many laughs. "Parisian Beauty" is the best episode of the series. 9/10

Series 3 - The series just gets better and better, Janey leaves for university and Abi moves into the Harper household. "Shrink Rap" is the best episode of this series. 9/10

Series 4 - Probably my favourite of the 11 series's. Nick manages to move back into the house, a new employee at the dentist surgery has a thing for Abi and Michael tries to pop he's cherry but Susan unknowingly stops that from happening. "Return of the Prodigal Prat" is the best episode of this series. 10/10

Series 5 - The series drops in quality a bit but the humour is still there. The absence of Nick is evident but there are many great moments in this episode. Janey returns to the household and Roger's crush for Abi grows and grows. "What's Up, Docklands?" is by far the best episode of the series and is in fact one of the best episodes the show has ever produced. 8/10

Series 6 - This is a great little series but the spark has somewhat disappeared. It's got a few great episodes but the absence of Nick is even more evident in this series. The relationship between Abi & Roger really gives this series a boost and the fact that both Janey and Michael ooze sex appeal in this series makes it all the more watch-able. "Living the Dream" is the best episode. 7.5/10

Series 7 - The series grows back its legs and begins to increase in quality. The wedding of Abi & Roger is lovely and Susan turns 50, which ends in hilarious consequences. "Susan of Troy" is the best episode of the series. 8.5/10

Series 8 - Pretty decent series but lacks any spark. The relationship of Abi & Roger is destroyed by horrific writing and the jokes seem to be repeated at times. "Cards on the Table" is a fantastic episode however. 5.5/10

Series 9 - Better than series 8 but not as good as it once was. Alfie, Janey and Michael make a great "threesome" and Ben gets a blast from the past. "A Difficult Undertaking" is probably the best episode. 6.5/10

Series 10 - The quality once again declines but not to a significant degree. The worst mistake made here is Michael coming out as gay, which is a mistake but Kenzo provides some laughs. "The Melbourne Identity" is the best episode. 4.5/10

Series 11 - This is actually a great season and probably the best one since Series 7. Kenzo supplies most of the laughs of but Susan and Ben are at their best. "Susan For A Bruisin'" is the best episode of the series. 7/10

So overall the Series started of well, with the first 7 series's being a great example of how good British Comedy really can be but series 8 and onwards lack the spark the show once had. I would recommend this box set as each series has "something to offer" but if you not a fan of the later seasons then I would recommend "The Season 1 - 7 Box-set".

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect example of a GREAT series turning sour., 31 Aug. 2011
FINAL DESTINATION - is a horror/thriller classic, it has EVERYTHING. Likable characters and a very intresting plot line. One by One surviours of flight 180 are killed of in strange ways after they cheated death. An excellent, chilling thriller with a suprising ending and a intresting storyline.

FINAL DESTINATION 2 - One of the best sequels I have ever watched, it does everything a good sequel should do (and where most sequels fail) It updates the story in a good and intresting way. All the characters are linked in someway to the characters of 180 which adds to the great continualliity. The only problem with this film is that some of the characters are not so nice so sometimes you do find yourself cheering death on.

FINAL DESTINATION 3 - This is not as bad as people make out, it is no way as good as the previous two and adds nothing new to the story at all but it's an intresting sequel with ALOT of flaws. Firstly it ruins the entire concept of the finale of the second film and their is no characterization because the charcaters are killed of basically in their second scene.

THE FINAL DESTINATION - This is where everything gets sour. It's just dull, it's not even one of those films that are bad but funny. It's just an awful film. No characterization at all, two characters who are ment to die but survive are not even mentioned on deaths list and there acting and deaths are not so good (except the one of the elivator which I won't spoil for you)

Overall this is a good film series but it went sour pretty quickly. 3 STARS overall but 5 STARS combined for the first two. so

2.0 out of 5 stars Pointless, 31 Aug. 2011
This has to be one of the most pointless sequels in the last few years. Just a pathetic cash-in because Hollywood has no ideas left. The film isn't awful but it isn't good either.

Do yourself a favour and re-watch the original trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars To Late., 22 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Weeds - Season 5 [DVD] (DVD)
Great DVD, but it was released to late so as I already have the American Version so I can not think of a single reason as to why this would be worth purchasing.

But if you haven't bought it from the US, buy away. It is the worst of the five series's but still one of the best things on TV.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sad To See It End.....BUT It's for the best., 12 July 2011
This review is from: My Family - Series 11 [DVD] (DVD)
My Family is a very intresting comedy when you think about it, the critics hate it and the fans love it. I used to love it, now I just like it as let's face it My Family is not what it used to be.

The first 5 series were brillant, 6 was decent and 7 was great. Series 8 and onwards were average, a few good episodes in each series, but the rest are either average or not funny. The show suffered alot when it lost one of it's best characters (Nick) and at the end of series 8 we also lost Abi, the two better characters (besides Ben and Susan).

Things just got ridiculous in the last few series, they get a dog which never appears again, Michael turns out to be gay (He's not gay, you can tell by how he was portrayed in earlier series, just a PATHETIC attempt to seem cool),repeated jokes, Abi becoming a nun (Just Awful, the worst exit they coulD have done for her. All her time on the show she didn't strike me as a strong believer) and ROGER - his was not needed after Abi left, he presense now just seems to be irratating. The character Kenzo has pretty much saved the show, he is witty and far more entertaining than Janey or Michael and He is in the better episodes.

Anyway series 11 - The first episode was good, per usual. Kenzo is great and so is the brillant connection Susan and Ben have (which seems to make the episode "Accusin' Susan" dull), there scenes is the reason the show is still loved. This series just seems recyled so far, we are 4/5 episodes in to the series and I have a feeling the show will decline in humour and storyline (like it has between series 8 - 10). It's sad to see this showing being cancelled as I would of loved to have had a series were everything was pulled together (Janey can get married, Abi can realise she left the man she loved for a ridculous reason and we could finally get a perfect ending for the perfect couple and we could see how Ben really misses the kids now they have all offically left).

In conclusion 3/5 for the new series, predictable like the others. Out of the 4/5 episodes so far 2 were good and the others were average. Kenzo makes the show better and Roger makes it worse. I'm hoping for a good final episode aswell but the last great series ender was at the end of Series 7 so I am not going to hold my breath. Buy this if you want to complete the collection or just want some simple comedy to watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Make sure this DVD doesn't stay buried, WATCH IT., 11 July 2011
This film has everything, a great cast, a decent storyline and actually has brillant character development.

So they accidently kill someone and the man who they accidently killed comes back to seek revenge. This is however changed in the ending, which is a more realistic approach.

The only major flaw in this film is that Helen Shimmers is killed of (a.k.a Geller) when in all honesty it's Jennifer Love Hewitt who should have been killed off. This means that I have taken off one star. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Shocked?, 9 July 2011
This review is from: A Way Away (Audio CD)
I bought this after hearing one song, which happened to be when I was going through my time of the month when I go mad and buys loads of stuff with left over cash. And I'm glad I purchased this, to be honest I wasn't expecting to like it at all but the second I put it on I just couldn't turn it off.

Hope to hear more from them, they are a generally talented girl group who deserve loads of success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Step up from the third..., 6 July 2011
This review is from: Scream 4 [DVD] (DVD)
I loved this film but it did have a few problems.

The opening was great and had a lot of supsense, I thought it was very clever but the final part (Marnie and Jenny) i thought ended to quick and it would have been fun to have seen more of them to and prehaps more of a build up to Jenny's death.

The film was funny and the three returning characters where brillant (Gale in paticular), but I do think it's about time at least one of them is killed of in the fifth installment (It's obvious it will happen).

One of the killers was obvious and the other one was a suprise (well it was kind of obvious towards the end when she was the only one left and the only one who hadn't really been attacked).

The deaths were very good. Olivia's in paticular was gory and brought a suprising "oh my god" moment which the third installment was missing. Trevor'd death was painful to watch, Kirby's (suppossed) death was touching and shocking at the same time but Gale's attack just seemed to samey.

Sid's aunt did not get enough screen time, it would have been nice to have seen the connection between them and prehaps a connection between Kate and Jill aswell.

There was great character development but prehaps the film was a little to long.

The ending was very good, i loved how it ended twice basically. However I would have thought the ending with Jill being taken out of the house and being taken to hospital would have been a far better ending.

Overall it's a brillant sequel and a great stand alone film, yes it has a few floors that could have EASILY have been sorted out BUT for what it is, it's a modernday horror masterpiece. :)

4.5/ 5
