5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference, 25 May 2016

In May 2016 I had a brief (3 day) London adventure where I managed to take in four galleries and the Royal Academy. In the bookshop of Tate Britain I saw this book and on returning home purchased a second hand copy on Amazon for a fraction of the price. This is quite a small book, just under A5 size, but it’s packed with details of the artists, their history and careers, some documentation and the history of pre-Raphaelite art. The book has five main sections followed by details of museums, the artwork and documents and is an excellent pocket reference book. Details of two of my favourite paintings, The Lady of Shallot and Ophelia, are both included, and the whole package is an excellent reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb quality, 25 May 2016

I bought myself this for my birthday. It’s the third book in a series that covers Michelangelo and da Vinci and is as splendid as them. This book is enormous and is one of the Taschen series in this format. Taschen means quality, just like Dorling Kindersley. The book measures 26cm wide by 39cm high and, according to my scales, weighs a little over 4kg. It contains 306 pages and comes within a hard slip cover which is designed to hold the book in the open position if it’s on display. The book is in seven main sections – four covering his life and career followed by an epilogue, a catalogue of paintings and a bibliography. No stone is left unturned and this is going to take me the rest of my life to work through (slowly). I love it and the detail of Michelangelo’s work is superb. Many books have “Complete Works” on the cover, and in this case I actually believe it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective steamer, 25 May 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I won't repeat what the other reviewers have said about this machine but I think what you want it for will obviously influence your choice of words. I'm not after anything portable and I only want to use it for areas like kitchen cupboards and shower grouting, nothing outside the house.

I found it to be noisy but effective and the attachments are good, leading me to think someone has thought about the design. I'm sure I'll find something negative about it after time but at the moment it's just fine and probably the best steamer I've used (and I've used some crap ones).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice change for an old story, 25 May 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As a young soldier in the 70s I read all the Sven Hassel books, as did all my colleagues. He was popular and his stories were well received - military but anti-establishment. When I saw his novels were being published in graphical form I thought I'd see what they were like and sent away for "Wheels of Terror". It's A4 size and 120 pages long. I quite like it and, as a visual person, had the comic strip version been out 40 years ago I'd probably have bought it. The characters are pretty true to form, the drawings are not as bad as some have made out and it will have a certain attraction to a particular type of reader.

I only gave it four stars because I'm past the Sven Hassel stage now and wouldn't buy another, but there are far worse books in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tutorial, 22 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A really good 165 page book just slightly smaller than A4 with lots of tips and ideas. It’s certainly aimed at the beginner to intermediate level and is full of exercises and instruction. Naturally it also contains some great examples. The book is split into seven sections – Supplies, Strokes, Shading, Simulating Texture, Sketchbooking, Stages of a Finished Drawing and Secret Line of Balance. I bought the book because I want to use pens more and recognised that I needed some tuition and a good reference. I am also fascinated with using ballpoint pens and bought the book to give me a hand.

I’ve been fascinated with using ballpoint pens for drawing for quite some time. I think the work of Richard Johnson (News Illustrator) has spurred me on and I’d love to have his skill. I also recognised the challenges of using ballpoint. This book is almost square - 21 by 25 cm – and contains 160 pages. The book is split into six main sections – Overview & History, Contemporary Classical, Contemporary Abstraction, Illustration & Design, Sketchbook Art and Contemporary Realism. Some of the work in here is unbelievable and I aspire to reaching that level of quality. Apart from that the book is loaded with really good instruction from the most basic tasks to real complexity. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to try something different.

Excellent product. I've suffered for years with dry cracked skin on the ends of my fingers and especially on my thumbs. I've tried loads of different creams and they have an effect sometimes but O'Keeffe's is absolutely excellent. I've stuck to the twice a day rule and my hands have never been better.

I bought the foot cream at the same time, not that I needed it, but it's also good. I use it every morning after showering and I feel it's doing some good as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a Porno!, 22 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
When I saw some French Curves advertised on Amazon I thought it was a DVD so I bought it . . . Anyway, I bought these to help me in a picture I'm drawing of the cloisters in Glasgow University and I must say they've been invaluable. I couldn't find much on the web regarding how to use them but it's common sense really. I tend to sketch the curve I want with a light pencil then use the French Curves to get the precise shape using a pen. It's a bit hit and miss because you have to move the curves around until you get what you want and some curves have to be done in two or three sections but the end result, if you take your time, is excellent.

Practice really does make perfect in this case! I highly recommend these to any draughtsman or artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wank wipes are a necessity., 1 May 2016
Roll out the white carpet before even thinking about strangling Kojak. Even if you are an awful shot it's still best to lay down the law before hand. Don't attempt to wank when drunk. Particularly if you are still living with your parents. Not only could you cause yourself some unnecessary damage downstairs, you'll also begin taking major risks i.e. leaving your bedroom door open or leaving the sound on too loud. Resist all temptation to have a novelty wank. A novelty wank is a particularly risky tug in uncharted territory, for example the office, a library or a public convenience. It will invariably end in disaster.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting use of technology, 22 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
An interesting and well thought out piece of equipment. The reason for four stars is that I haven't explored its full potential yet and I'll change my grading accordingly. If you see my on the next US masters you'll know it's good. I like the idea of technology helping and so far it's been good. I need to play more golf though and this is the excuse I've been looking for to get out and do it!
