5.0 out of 5 stars THE UNDERDOGS BITE BACK, 18 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Yep Noels gone with his sharp song writing he knew how to write an anthem so the underdogs have got themselves together and smashed out this great debut. Its a bit rushed some of the tunes are filler but like most albums thats always the case. The references to their influences are there but there are some great moments The Roller , Bring the light etc so go with an open mind its a different sound and one which will improve over time. Yes Noels is a good album but we have heard it all before he offers nothing new so give Liam and the boys a break its a great start.

5.0 out of 5 stars The silver fox on the run, 3 April 2013
This review is from: Arbitrage (Region 2) (Blu-ray)
Without giving anything away Gere has us routing for someone we should dislike for his cowardly action in a fairly run of the mill drama its worth watching for his performance alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars ignore the misleading amazon review, 16 Dec. 2012
The amazon review by some hack is utter tosh ..this collection of classic covers b sides and rare gems is weller in a period of time when he was incredibly prolific and an artist on the very top of his game. so prolific he could throw some of this material onto b sides when it could so easily sit skde by side on any album of the 3 albums around this period. Classic material nicely packaged. Buy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Remaster of a remaster not the master, 5 July 2012
This review is from: Quadrophenia (Audio CD)
i will brief this is a remaster od the 1996 version so is still missing various sound effects and is not then taken from the maater tapes . Packaging is nice with clearer art but thats all that is clearer the music has been tweaked with some odd sounds on 515 coming to the fore whilst the drums are muffled as is the guitar. Those expecting a revelation will be disappointed. Stick with an original vinyl copy or if you can find one the original german polydor cd which remains the best sounding digital version.

5.0 out of 5 stars BACK IN THE FIRE, 23 Mar. 2012
This review is from: Sonik Kicks (Audio CD)
Weller's recent output has not been to every fans taste but if like me you are enjoying the musical journey so far this new set of soundscapes, straight pop and psychodelic tub thumping should fill your every want. The journey into experimentation started with 22 dreams which was a sprawling untamed mass of brilliant half baked ideas which took Weller into Bowie, Krautrock and further pastoral experience. The album was also tinged by the sad loss of his father, Wake up the nation presented more short (too short) soundscapes and straight thumping punk glam. This new set is more sure footed he seems more at ease with his musical drifting. He could have sat around for years making as is now albums and churning out beatles inspired riffs so it exciting to listen to a big star stretching his listeners , its been done before by the likes of Bowie (who is a major influence) but Weller is in his mid 50's and his mojo is still working. Buy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars LACKING FIRE BUT FULL OF SKILL, 17 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Much has been made over the years of the years that Noel did not need his brother and folks longed to hear some a solo album , so hear it is after all these years .
There is nothing brave or experimental here , nothing which will make you think wow he really has moved on. Its a collection of lesser Oasis outtakes re recorded and some new material he may have had at the end of Oasis (performed at soundchecks). So nothing different really it is a good quality album but really lacks the fire and crackle of his brother , he was the hammer that knocks the nail in. Those folk who have taken aside and not got the beady eye album should get it as they make a perfect pair . You get the reflective Noel on this album all grown up and mid tempo of the 2 albums i must say i prefer Beady eyes attempt though the production leaves a lot to be desired . Production of Noels album is excellent though for fans of Oasis there is little to rave about. Roll on the mix album that should be along soon. He needs to take some tips from his neighbour (PW)on growing old disgracefully and stepping out of the comfort zone.

5.0 out of 5 stars KASABIAN ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM BUY IT NOW, 20 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Velociraptor! (Audio CD)
The fourth and perhaps most difficult album after such a storming 3rd album , simply put its a real grower. Each play rewards you with different styles respectfully evoking influences as diverse as Ennio Morricone (carried over from the last lp in a big way) led zep, beatles and middle of the road sugary pop. Its a hard to take in at first as the opening pair are immediate and knowing, offering a gut punch ,things slow and stretch in the middle with a blast of the tiltle tune towards the misty eyed end.its a great album just buy it and let the green fairy take you away.8/10

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag transfer to 1080 but extras are good., 29 Jun. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Many have raved about the transfer on show here but lets be honest the previous uk carlton transfer was very very solid and the colours looked nice and muted and contrast great. The level of detail on show in this first major Hammer hd experience is a little better but not a massive leap. The colour pallette looks boosted to me and less pleasing and the contrast is darker so some shadow detail is lost. Grain is there (which i prefer rather than noise reduction) which can look boosted because of the clarity of blu ray. So a mixed bag worth a punt for fans but not an exibition piece.
The extras are good especially the one on the hammer magazine but uk buyers beware its all region coded. For interest its a good buy but i was not over pleased by the contrast and colour. So if you have the dvd you may want to keep it.

3.0 out of 5 stars BUY FOR THE PACKAGING, 24 April 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Most hardcore fans will rush to buy this edition (ive reviewed the album in the other category of single disc) the packaging is excellent but the appraisal by Irvine Walsh was a piece of fluff blowing smoke up Weller's arse and the remix disc just incredibly embarrassing really. Who this 2nd disc is aimed at im unsure they are awful and i cannot see any young fans enjoying these 'in the club'. Some demos etc would have been nice , its a disc which will be never played. Its also a bit of a con as the contents would fit on 1 disc almost as the main body of work only lasts 40 mins.
