3.0 out of 5 stars Blixa returns with some obscure Italian?, 27 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Still Smiling (Audio CD)
This is a good record. Blixa Bargeld and Neubauten haven't released anything new since 2008. Teho Teardo provides an absorbing soundtrack to Blixa's musings on life in his native German, English and Italian. At times it feels like a Depeche Mode record without honking Dave. If you like Neubauten this is a must buy, if you don't, check it out anyway and expand your record collection if not your mind set.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love Kid Congo, 27 Aug. 2013

This review is from: Haunted Head (Audio CD)
Kid Congo played guitar in my three favourite bands ever (The Cramps, The Bad Seeds and the Gun Club) so I love the fact that so late in his career he has decided to become an artist in his own right. This album is as good as his previous releases which are a cornucopia of garage, psychedelic and 80's alt rock. There are some amazingly funky tunes, some dubious vocals and some seriously catchy songs on this album. Hail the Kid, long may he continue to release records that will be ignored by all but the most die hard of fans. Check out his Goo Goo Muck and you will be hooked for life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kim Salmon is back!, 27 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Runaways (Audio CD)
As a late comer to Kim Salmon's music and thinking that I has missed the boat with new music from him, he has suddenly been very prolific over the last few years, with a new Surrealists cd, Precious Jules and now this collaboration with his former colleague from the Beasts of Bourbon. This cd is probably my favourite of his recent releases as it it harks back to the Scientists and the afore mentioned Beasts. It sounds very raw and loud and has two classy covers of Gun Club tracks. Although this is a joint record with Spencer, it is really Kim's record and all the better for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Graney from the 90's, 27 Aug. 2013

This review is from: Mercury Years 1994 (Audio CD)
I didn't get into Dave Graney until my mid thirties, despite being aware of him since the mid 90's, but once I heard his music I was an instant fan. If you like Nick Cave or Tindertsicks he is definitely worth checking out. This box set collects his work with the Coral Snakes between 94 and 97 and includes three completely remastered cd's and an extra cd of unreleased material and b-sides. I own the albums and only bought this for the bonus cd but the whole package is brilliantly done and the additional liner notes by Dave make it a worthwhile purchase for current fans and an excellent starting point for Graney virgins.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you like the Doll Rods you'll like this, 27 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sin Te Lat in (Audio CD)
This is a solo album from the lead singer from the Demolition Doll Rods a raw garage rock band from Detroit who preempted the White Stripes. It's a decent album by a limited artist, the tunes are okay but Margaret has always been let down by her singing. If you like the Doll Rods like me it's worth adding to your collection, but its really only for fans. Check out TLA instead for the real Doll Rod experience

1.0 out of 5 stars I never liked the Clash and this cd sealed it, 27 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I watched a great documentary on the Clash on BBC3 and decided at the age of 42 that I should have a Clash cd in my collection despite never seeing the appeal in their records in the past. I should have trusted my instincts, as apart from a couple of their well known singles and Police & Thieves, their music is extremely tedious and very 80's sounding. I cannot emphasise how disappointed I was by the music across these two discs. It's been listened to once and then put away with my other erroneous purchases. There is only one punk band and that's the Pistols and that's a fact!

3.0 out of 5 stars An apt title as this record is definitely an acquired taste, 27 Aug. 2013

I love Mark Lanegan, so I have found this record very disappointing. His voice is still great but the tunes behind him are very poor and rambling. The music doesn't seem to go anywhere and actually distracts from some of the great vocals that Mark performs. An acoustic Lanegan album would be most welcome but unfortunately this isn't it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a grower, 27 Aug. 2013

I love Queens of the Stone Age and think that each of their records have improved upon the last by changing the sound. However, my first few listens to Like Clockwork and I was like so what? I still enjoyed it but didn't think it was anything different after such a long wait. But after numerous plays I consider it to be the second best album released this year after Nick Cave. Repeated listens have revealed the beauty of this record and the class tunes it has. Still can't forgive the Elton John cameo though, he should never be allowed to be cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars First album in 23 years and its a classic, 27 Aug. 2013

When I heard Crime had reformed I was amazed and apprehensive, I don't usually enjoy bands getting back together after years of inactivity and Simon Bonney had dropped off the map completely. But this album is amazing and the addition of David Eugene Edwards from Woven Hand has added a new dimension to Crimes sound, making them more vibrant and upbeat while still keeping the essential elements that made them a firm favourite of mine. This is one of the best albums of 2013, so far

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a good Iggy album but it's not the Stooges!, 27 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Ready To Die (Audio CD)
This is probably one of Iggy's best albums since the early 90's but it is not a patch on Raw Power which is the version of the Stooges that Iggy is currently touting. He would have been better leaving that legacy alone and using the Iggy Pop name instead, although it does beat the appalling The Weirdness which signalled the original Stooges return in 2007.
