4.0 out of 5 stars Smouldering & sexy Arquette..., 3 July 2007
This review is from: The Wrong Man [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Amazing that not too many folk seem to have heard of this 1992 film, let alone seen it..! But for Ros Arquette fans this is a MUST see. A 'Road Film Noir' may best describe this dark, case of wrong identity. Smouldering, red hot Arquette steals every scene she's in. John Lithgow of '3rd Rock from the Sun' fame is her menacing hubby. And the 'trois' in this menage is a (then) young, unknown actor (who's name escapes me..) who looks a bit like that chap who nearly won Big Brother(UK) round about 2003, long brown hair, quiet good looks... had a liaison with a brunette in the BB house, who nobody seemed to like (jealous of her, I guess). He did some 'cleaning' ads after that BB show, but nothing much else... I'm waffling now, its gone past late..!! Shame 'The Wrong Man' is not on Dvd, I'd watch it again...or is it Amazon..? Help us out here...!

3.0 out of 5 stars Which do you prefer, Batman or Magician...?, 21 May 2007
This review is from: The Prestige [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
Ok. An 'interesting' film, which will probably hold your attention for about an hour...! The story is bizarre, circa 1900's and many scenes appear to be in sepia tone! (hokum really) unless you're a serious believer in the darker side of the magic arts! Christian Bale is a good actor, but i couldn't get the hang of his 'cockney' accent in this, and i feel he was miscast as the rogue magician with a very dark secret. After all, Batman is not supposed to be a bad guy, is he..? Apart from that, the rivalry between the two magicians here becomes a little annoying after a while, and the story does take a bad turn towards the end. If you like that, or bad endings, you may like this film. I didn't, but don't let me put you off. Its a bit of fantasy, with a dark edge to it. TJ

5.0 out of 5 stars This film is daylight robbery...! A perfect one..?, 21 May 2007
This review is from: Inside Man [DVD] (DVD)
'Inside Man' is an excellent watch! And probably the best heist film you will see for a long time! Clive Owen is excellent as the cool, calm and collected mastermind behind a daring bank robbery. Denzel Washington is the detective trying to put the pieces together, and there are a few! But we don't see enough of Jodie Foster as the bank investigator, hers is almost a bit part, but a vital one. She steals almost every scene she's in! A clever film, that you know is gonna twist and surprise you, but you don't know how, until the last few scenes. Cleverly done. No gratuitous sex or violence, proving that good films really don't need that! Watchit! You'll enjoy it. TJ

4.0 out of 5 stars You can have your snow cake and eat it...!!, 17 May 2007
This review is from: Snow Cake [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
A Good film! Kinda slow, but Alan Rickman is excellent as the innocent crash survivor, and griever of past hurts, now re-enhanced in a new tragedy! Sounds complicated, but it isn't, and you're involved in the film from the start, which is a good sign in itself.

'Snow Cake' brings autism to light once more, which can only be a good thing. Sigourney Weaver's representation here may not be as good as Dustin Hoffman's in 'Rain Man' (who could follow that..?) but its a fine attempt, all the same. There are some unusual characters in this 'small town' environment, one or two humourous bits, one or two tragic bits, one or two tender moments, and some dark moments, a fantasy 'sex circumstance', a jealous cop, a nosey neighbour, the unfortunate 'guilty' truck driver, and a whole back yard of snow in this film! An interesting mix, and two difficult topics, death of a loved one and autism, I thought, dealt with sensitively and still in good humour. Worth seeing, on a cold night, with a loved one, or a hot toddy, or both.. when the snows not too deep, and you don't have to drive home...!! TJ
