Seems to be more about her mother than anything, not the nostalgic view of the era in which I grew up.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important piece of history and not just escapism., 20 Jun. 2014

This is a must for anyone interested in second world war escape stories. Furthermore, it makes one realise just how brave, dedicated, innovative and determined "ordinary people" were in times past. Not only does the book detail an exciting, dangerous and seemingly impossible escape from what was a fortress, it illustrates how people can show quite extraordinary qualities when the "chips are down". Well worth a read !

I have just finished reading all 3 of John Nixon's books. I enjoyed every single one of them. Can't wait to see if he's got anymore up his sleeve. All 3 well worth a read. Very easy and interesting reading.
