Wonderful, even better than the initial volume. I am enjoying reliving this wonderful series!
Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbourne really comes into his own in these episodes - he is quite a chilling baddie! Great comedy moments from Much - particularly when he is made an earl by the Sheriff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Swashbuckling at it's best, 22 Aug. 2012
First of all, I would like to mention Keith Allen as the Sheriff of Nottingham. This is by far the best piece of casting in the show, as he is both creepy yet extremely entertaining. The writing is at its best during scenes between him and Robin, when they put down their weapons and engage in a thrilling battle of the wits.
As for Robin himself, actor Jonas Armstrong is the perfect Robin Hood for the modern age: witty, charming, dashing, and with the perfect balance of comic and dramatic sensibility within the role. Added to that, he is a Northern boy - the show has a wonderful use of Northern actors, Richard Armitage being a notable example. His Guy of Gisbourne provides a good sinister weight that works beautifully in tandem with his humorous co-villain, the Sheriff.
The weakest aspect of the show, in my opinion, is Marian. Yes, they've updated her to suit modern society's perception of women, and I quite like the fact that they've made her a sort of double-agent-charity-worker. One can only imagine how tempting it must have been for the writers to go down the clichéd "warrior princess" route. However, Lucy Griffiths' portrayal doesn't quite hit the mark. She nails "feisty" and "independent", but fails to show the warmth which one would have thought such a charitable character would possess. This makes her a little one-dimensional and difficult to sympathise with.
The Merry Men create a stellar ensemble, as well as being wonderful individual characters. Scottish toned John, shy Will Scarlet and the comical Allen-a-Dale bring a rich array of colour to the group, whereas the too-quickly-killed-off Roy acts as the embodiment of all things Yorkshire. The later addition of the spiritual and sensible Friar Tuck and even the controversial Kate complete the group. And then of course, there is Much the Miller's son - Robin's squire and best friend. Much has a tendency to mother Robin, and this coupled with his pessimistic attitude provides many great comic moments. Yet there is also a serious side to Much - having recently returned from the crusades with Robin, he is inwardly haunted by the sights and sounds of war.
Sadly, it only really served to carve the way for the more-successful Merlin, but Robin Hood is as fast-paced, edgy, and gripping as its brilliant swashbuckling theme-tune. Great family viewing that gets better and better by the series, and the season 3 finale is unexpected and moving - I won't spoil it for you though!

Merlin Series 4 Volume 1 BBC [DVD]

5.0 out of 5 stars Merlin, Series 4 Vol 1, 24 Jan. 2012
Series four is without a doubt the best so far. The same can be said about this DVD; the bonus material is great and the commentries are really interesting.

I really can't sing the BBC's praises high enough for giving us this programme. As an Arthurian legend enthusiast it's refreshing to see such an original take on the stories.

My favourite episode has to be 'The Wicked Day' as Colin Morgan is so funny (and convincing) as elderly Merlin. I definitely think he's an actor to look out for in the future, and this show is a wonderful platform for his (and his co-stars')talent.

The costumes are also better than ever in this series. It's obvious where the liscence fee money is are going!

I would also like to mention one of the most outstanding aspects of the series: the musical score. It's beautifully composed and played, and I thoroughly recommend buying the soundtracks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jane Eyre, 19 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Jane Eyre [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
This is easily my favourite production of Jane Eyre! Many of the other versions I have seen focus more on either the romantic aspect of the novel, or the supernatural. This beautifully acted version boasts a perfect blend of both, and I would reccommend it to any Bronte fanatic!

"Weaving olden dances
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight."

Isn't that just so beautifully put?
A wonderful collection from a wonderful poet. I was very happy to see that my favourite poems, 'The Stolen Child' and 'Into the Twilight', appear in this collection. I thoroughly recommend this to all lovers of poetry and Irish folklore.

This script arrived in wonderful condition, and the delievery was a day earlier than expected.

I am an actor and am always looking for interesting monologues to take to auditions. I have been searching for a fantasy peice - so I was delighted to come across His Dark Materials.
I would strongly recommend this to other actors looking for similar material, or anyone just looking for a good script to read!

I never saw the stage show whilst it was in London, however I have been a devoted fan of the books and movies from the age of 7.
The soundtrack is - how else can I put it? - sublime. There's not a single track that doesn't transport you into the same magic world that is built in the books. I'd even go as far to say that it's definitly of the standard of the timeless West End musicals like Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.
A genuinely different musical - just what the West End needs in this age of shallower theatrical productions (Mamma Mia, Legally Blonde, Grease - which don't get me wrong, are still brilliant). But quite frankly, Lord of the Rings is one of the best musicals I've heard in a long time.

Just magical.

Wow, in a word. An amazing performance from a wonderful cast of actors, not to mention the beautiful delivery of those fantastic songs! For me, the highlight of the whole thing has to be "What You Own". I even go as far as to say that I prefer it to the film version, the whole show is absolutly stunning. Moved to the core.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take That box set, 24 Sept. 2009

As a child of the early 90's, this is a real trip back in time for me. Hearing songs such as 'I Can Make It', and 'The Day After Tomorrow' really take one down memory lane, and for that reason I would recommend this to Take That fans who were there from the beginning.
Nostalgia aside, the individual albums themselves are fantastic, and are a wonderful display of everything that made us fall in love with Take That all those years ago, and Gary Barlow's genius shines through on every track (written by him). Newer Take That fans who will be more familiar with the Beautiful World and The Circus albums will also enjoy listening to these records.
I honestly cannot think of anything negative to say about this product! Long live Take That and may they continue to inspire and move people with their wonderful music!
