5.0 out of 5 stars It Just Works, 21 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a very well-designed product. The battery lasts a couple of days of normal usage, which is enough to significantly change how you use the phone; you no longer need to worry about how heavily you're using it in case it runs out of charge, and if you forget to charge it one night then that's no longer as much of a problem.

The backplate clips on quite well; I've only had it fall off once when I dropped it, and nothing was damaged. It includes an NFC (near-field communication) initiator, like the original backplate, if you need that. The backplate is a slightly different colour than the original metallic-coloured one but that doesn't significantly affect the aesthetics of the phone.

I was a bit concerned that it might be too awkward to hold in the hand, but I needn't have worried -- it's fine to hold, and not too heavy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shame on Amazon and the authors of this book; thanks to everyone who wrote 1-star reviews, 28 Nov. 2012
I would just like to say, as a trans, genderqueer pansexual woman, how encouraged I am by reading the 73 (currently) one-star reviews of this book. Thankyou, all of you, for taking the time to write them.

Shame on Amazon for stocking this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh, it mostly works on Linux, 11 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well, it works on Ubuntu Maverick, with a bit of cajoling: I needed to compile pavucontrol (PulseAudio volume control) from source, working around a problem with its Makefile, in order to enable the new devices for USB sound input and output. I think this would have happened for any USB headset, and can mostly be attributed to rubbish sound support on Ubuntu Maverick (which might have been partly fixed in subsequent releases) rather than a specific problem with this headset.

[Edit: indeed this headset works out-of-the-box on Linux Mint 13.]

The power-off timeout when not in use is definitely a bit too short, and the only way to reset it is to turn the headset off and on again using the switch on one of the earpieces. It doesn't cause a problem when the headset is in continuous use, but when you're fiddling with the sound configuration in a new application to get it to work (which unfortunately tends to be necessary on Linux), it's easy to forget that it might have timed out and think that it's not working for some other reason.

The background hum/whine mentioned in other reviews is real. I have hyperacusis so it seems quite loud to me. That and the timeout issue would be sufficient for me not to buy this headset again if I needed a replacement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully understated, 8 Nov. 2007
This review is from: Wild Side [2004] [DVD] (DVD)
It's rare to see a film in which the characters, of any sexuality, actually seem that they are in love with each other. That's beautifully done here.

Contrary to one of the other reviews, I found the pacing of the film just right: yes, not a lot happens, but it doesn't need to. I can't think of anything to criticise except maybe that it's a pity the "deleted scenes" on the DVD couldn't be included. Highly recommended.

Don't miss the interview with the director.
