5.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Blue Sees the Light of Day, 10 Nov. 2010
In their time, Magna have produced some classic albums that, for one reason or another have quickly become hard to obtain. It is clearly a red letter day, when another one becomes available . Angel Air have done an excellent job in the packaging and Chris Simpson has worked hard to direct the project, remix the tracks, add an excellent second CD of live music and restructure the main album. The music, as always, with Magna Carta is a joy to listen to. We are treated to a display of excellent song writing and superb musicianship. Chris himself is on fine form and leads the band through a varied repertoire of his songs ( There is one track not by him but by Doug Morter)........We see a side of Magna that is not seen in the other albums , Having survived the early days of progressive folk Magna have shown that they are a band with staying power they have adapted to the times but, show now signs of selling out. The feel of the Yorkshire Dales and Chris's solid passions for life are still there if, somewhat altered in presentation by the style of production and approach used at this time. It is great to hear Chris playing his guitar in the excellent company of many good musicians here.........Paul Burgess , George Norris, Doug Morter, Lee Abbot and Vic Emerson. The track listing includes some real classics including "Highway To Spain", "Danny " and the excellent "Midnight Blue" Catch Kate Robbins on "Wind On the Water' too ................... So , by they time you have got this far its time to stop talking ( or reading ), its time to locate this album's order button click on it and look forward to nearly two and a half hours of shear pleasure !

5.0 out of 5 stars Gordon's Gold, 23 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Don Quixote (Audio CD)
This Canadian singer songwriter is a mater craftsman...........This is another excellent album from Gordon's years at Reprise records.......story telling songs with beautiful melodies are the hallmark of his style and this album. There is thought, care and happiness in his writing and like Don Quiote , Gordon treks from subject to subject carrying with him his well loved but battered guitar and his life ravaged soul. Gordon is always ready to do musical battle and is always triumphant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Musical excellence through 30 years, 27 Oct. 2009
This review is from: Where to Now (Audio CD)
After 31 years on the road and in the studio, and as the turn of the millennium approached, it was time for Magna Carta to reflect upon their past. From their beginnings in 1969 as a folk band, through the ground breaking Seasons and Lord Of The Ages and on to a Rock presence, through the dessert acoustic club, solo moments, a duo and onwards Magna had stood tall .This compilations recalls that journey and makes it with some excellent musical milestones. Magna at the turn of the millennium have shown that they are the masters of many styles of music , they have had many excellent musicians pass through their ranks and yet through it all have always shown that they have never lost their commitment to excellent music or their roots..... Chris Simpson has remained their musical linchpin and it is he who has complied this excellent trip through their musical past. The double album shows Magna's wonderful music from all angles and is an excellent buy for the true music lover.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Well Respected Man, 27 Oct. 2009
This review is from: 20 Golden Greats (Audio CD)
These are the twenty golden greats of one of music's well respected men.........The cowboy-cum-singer Glen, shows that he is a vocalist of substance. He can be a Rhinestone Cowboy, showing a performers dreams, to the Wichita Lineman, whose Denim blue voice laments a distant love. Glen can handle difficult songs like Gentle on my mind and make them look easy or make you visualize Galveston and wanting to be there. This is only snap shot,of twenty songs but, you can see why the Beach Boys had no problems when asking him to deputize for Brian Wilson in live concerts because he is of that high vocal quality...........OK there are one or two songs that a bit twee but, I guess everyone has their weaker points .....................

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic From Chris Simpson and Magna Carta, 3 Feb. 2009
This review is from: Took A Long Time (Audio CD)
It had been a difficult time for Magna Carta, gone were the ideas of "Seasons" and the theatre of "Lord of the Ages£....on had gone the seventies to the point of standing at the gates of Punk Rock. Much water had flowed under the bridges of the bands collective connections and all looked to be uncertanty ........however, it is at times of change and pressure that a bands true metal begins to show and it is in the reflections of the past that we see the shining future to come......On this album Chris Simpson and the team show that they are going to be survivors and trailblazers of the future of Folk Rock......Songs about "Putting it all back together" ....."Wild birds" ......"A princess" and the times things take ( "Took along time" ) show that this band are as eternal as the Yorkshire stone and countryside that shaped its founder.................A feest for the ear......well worth buying .....

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Starship Enterprise Sails On", 3 Feb. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The cast and crew of the enterprise demonstrate well that they have gelled together to enter the second series............The sets remain suspect as does the fact that in these times of interseller travel we have still not managed to progress past rotating wheels to register numbers on displys. However, the dream continues....Kirk , Spock and the rest of the crew play out some of the finest Sci-Fi adventures ever written for the small screen and within the limitations they had at the time ..still manage to make all would-be members of the crew long to be aboard with the regular members of the cast ......to boldly go where no man has gone before.......Long Live Star Trek !!!!
