Great mix of Blues, Rock, and AOR. Usually, I wouldn't entertain an album that changed styles throughout but I have to say that the quality level is so high you just don't care. The musicianship and production are of a very high standard indeed. The now well past his best Mr Coverdale puts in a decent guest vocal showing on the reworked Whitesnake track Trouble and Mr Bonamassa leaves his mark as guest guitarist on the albums title track. The real star though is Bernie. He has written some top tunes here, plays beautifully and sings even better. Great stuff and can't wait to catch him live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Missing the point!!, 28 May 2014
This review is from: A Letter Home (Audio CD)
Those of you who have scored this album as a 1 or 2 are seriously missing the point!
If I am not mistaken, this was never meant to be a highly polished product. This project was all about realism and authenticity.
A little bit of research as a fan would have given a mighty hint of what to expect before you purchased!
Neil and Jack have come up with a product which was always going to divide opinion and i'm sure they would have been disappointed if it hadn't. It is what it is and I love the fact that you can purchase a 180 gram limited edition vinyl version for hi-fi enthusiasts to get an even poorer result!
A work of art and complete genius from the cantankerous old bugger and his able apprentice and how refreshing to see Mr Young thinking inside the box for a change!!

After two strong studio albums and a fanatastic live album this cd is going to launch Simon McBride to the masses.Every track on this cd has been beautifully crafted and recorded with solo's that perfectly enhance the song rather than coming across as a moment to show off! The use of keyboards, brass, and backing vocals all works really well and gives this cd something that the earlier works were missing. There are no weak tracks or fillers in sight. The balance between up tempo numbers and slower material is excellently balanced, making for a listening experience that just leaves you wanting to hit the repeat button again and again.

Over recent years we have seen Mr Bonamassa become a global superstar on the back of some very good and some very average pieces of work. I was lucky enough to see Joe at London's Borderline club back in 2006 for £17! To see him at the same venue in 2013 costs £1500 with a roast dinner thrown in for good value! We need a new hero who we can all support and go to see without breaking the bank!

Simon McBride is that man! He is about to tour this majestic piece of work around Britain and at prices you wouldn't believe!

I literally cannot wait to hear these gems live when he hits my home Town on Nov 13th.

Buy this album with confidence and support the tour as this guy is home grown, unbelievably gifted, and certainly no ORDINARY JOE!

Awesome stuff.
