Now rather dog-eared and scarred by curled-up 'stickies', but mile for mile, the finest travelling companion we could have wished for on our amazing Alaskan adventure...

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll want to go!, 23 April 2014

Just a brilliant free primer for this first-time traveller to Alaska. Denali, of course, flightseeing, sea excursions and a gripping journey in the footsteps of the gold-crazed Klondike invaders. Lots more besides. Written with style and passion for the place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid trip back in time to when Saturday's heroes were called Roy, Bobby, George, Colin..., 23 April 2014
You get a sense of so near yet so far from reading the footballing life story of Roy McFarland. As an England defender, he arrived just too late and so will for ever remain in the shadow of Bobby Moore. When his time did come, injuries and Poland got in the way. He might have lifted the European Cup with Derby County, but disgraceful events in the semi-final against Juventus in 1973 conspired against the Rams. Events in Turin all those years ago, graphically recounted here, also exposed a fallibility not usually associated with Brian Clough. McFarland was given a second chance – but turned down Clough and Nottingham Forest on their way to becoming kings of Europe for a second time. Roy Mac spans a career during which planet football changed beyond recognition – not necessarily for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute cracker, 12 Jun. 2011

After being gripped by series 3 on BBC 4, this was a must-have at such a bargain price. Gritty and ultra-raw French cop drama that barrels along amid a seedy Paris backdrop. As the body count racks up, main protagonists are the horny and slightly soiled female police inspector, an honourable prosecutor, a ruthless defence lawyer and the obsessive monsieur magistrate, who is le spit of Arsene Wenger in barmy bottle-kicking mode. Truly riveting and sometimes brutal, it's up there with the original Wallender and The Killing.
