The Moor: A journey into the English wilderness
The Moor: A journey into the English wilderness
by William Atkins
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.28

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommend!, 7 Oct. 2017
A really interesting book that charts, not so much the history, but the identity of a range of different moorlands across England. Part travelogue, part historical biography, part eco-critical perception, this book covers a wide range of different interests and inter-disciplinary fields. Recommend!

An evocative and thought provoking read that draws out into the peripheries of our lives and asks us to reevaluate our relationships with the world around us, to notice what we take for granted each day. The book is broken down into a series of journeys and focuses on a topographical or ecological features characteristic of that place. The best thing about the book is that by the end it helps you to realise that wildness is not some motif of camping holiday commercials and adventure films, but is, in its most basic essence, something that surrounds us all the time.

No idea what the Amazon Classic review is talking about above as that seems to be a different book. HG Wells' story is worth a read.. the protagonist/antagonist? is a complex character that is both sympathetic and repulsive.

The Talented Mr. Ripley
The Talented Mr. Ripley
by Patricia Highsmith
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.90

5.0 out of 5 stars Talented indeed, 28 Mar. 2017
Excellent novel that gives a different side to the killer/victim dichotomy. Yes Ripley is a psychopath and a little weird but his character is so well built up that you find yourself rooting for him at the end.

pretty much the same premis as 'Paper Towns' - Guy falls for girls, girl leaves, guy gets over it. It was readable, the characters were not likeable in the slightest however...

Nice story. Enjoyed the interwoven intertextuality of the poetry which was a nice touch. Worth a read.

A retelling of History through the voices of forgotten and marginalised women, often with a satirical slant on the men who are deemed more memorable. Mrs Faust is probably my favourite.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a very deep hole..., 14 Aug. 2016
It was ok,m. Typical detective fiction - guessed who did it half way through which kind of ruined the end but I'd probably read another.
