Well this is one of the most unusual bands I have ever come across, can't deny that for a second. I "discovered" them when I saw them at Download 2010 in June. They were just such a laugh, they didn't care, and they got the crowd going and had some pretty memorable tunes so I tried to track the album down afterwards of course. I can't quite put a label on it... I think the album title tries to do that, but still does it little justice. Nobody knows quite what it is, but it's a monster album from a band who sadly will probably never see an audience outside of their "niche". Ok, you may have to have certain tastes and a sense of humour to get it, but for those who get it, it's pretty sweet. :)

BRMC are never going to be my favourite band on the planet. They're the band I accidentally discovered watching Scuzz one day many moons ago when the video for "Ain't No Easy Way" was played. Suitably impressed I snapped up a copy of Howl. But it really took til I heard this album for me to get into BRMC proper. This, in my opinion, has to be their most consistent work and unfortunately wasn't topped by Beat The Devil's Tattoo but this is just the album I hope will be regarded as their "essential" classic.

I may only be young but ZZ Top have always been one of my favourite bands... since hearing Mescalero, I've gone back over and bought much of ZZ Top's stuff. Now this is an interesting little cracker I picked up today, isn't it? XXX is definitely not their best album but it's got a pretty tight-knit little groove to it that only ZZ Top could pull off record after record, and that's why it's great. Not because it's different or their finest works to date or anything like that but because it's consistent, the band's tight as ever and it's got a few butt-shakin' groovy tracks on it, and at the end of the day that's what we expect from ZZ Top, and they deliver every time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm..., 16 July 2010

As much as I like Aerosmith I think this is a bit patchy!! It's not bad, but it's not the best. I've got two of their live albums and admittedly this is better than Rockin' the Joint because of the variety of "classic" songs they squeeze in here but in terms of standing up against their studio albums, I just don't get a feel for it?

4.0 out of 5 stars ...And he gave me the blackball!, 11 Oct. 2009
This review is from: Cheat The Gallows (Audio CD)
I first heard of Bigelf when I saw the ad for the Progressive Nation 2009 tour with Dream Theater/Opeth/Unexpect on the bill as well. Then I saw the review of "Cheat the Gallows" in Classic Rock. So I thought I better check them out! What a band! Saw a few videos on YouTube, heard "Hex" on Spotify (another great album!) and then bought this! They're also awesome to watch live. They play songs in the vein of Black Sabbath/Deep Purple/Led Zeppelin and they look damn cool too! Rarely do you see a band who take massive organs on stage, sport beards and dredds and play the way they do without breaking a sweat! If you love your Sabbath, Zepp, Purple and Wolfmother, they're well worth checking out! The reviews don't lie.
