The facts, right between the eyes. It will scare you the further you read into it because you will identify with so much of it. I just wish politicians would do the same

3.0 out of 5 stars sounds like Billy Idol now - they've both mellowed to such ..., 23 July 2016
This review is from: Hidden City (MP3 Download)
The incredible guitar work, especially on the first track highlights the band's undoubted skill, but Astbury, for me, sounds like Billy Idol now - they've both mellowed to such a degree, they sound like they're talking instead of singing. Well, they ARE talking instead of singing. On track after track, his vocals just do not hit the bar. They often sound at odds with the music being played as well, as though tracks have somehow collided. I try and blot him out and just listen to the band

In short I adore the band's musicianship but I wish they had a fresh, vibrant, in tune singer because Astbury is a liability now

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly beautiful album, 28 April 2016

Stunning album. I cannot say that one track is weak. He has shown great respect to the original songs yet, somehow, added his own flavour in such a way as to "better" the originals. "The Guitar Lesson" is one of his finest moments. Truly haunting and beautiful. "Sign O The Times" shocked me. It starts a little too timidly but you feel hooked from the start, then BANG a raw guitar sound to shatter the best speakers. Onto his own tracks and I have to say "Moment I Lost" is a superb nod to Pink Floyd, with delicious guitar. "Well you're wrong" is a truly delightful song.

I love this album from start to finish and, although I have highlighted a few, trust me, it is a classic from end to end.

Four gorgeous tracks ruined by the utterly dreadful "We Go Down" and "I Scan The Surface". The rest, praise be, are delicious Covenant. You need headphones though, as the sounds come to life only when heard at their finest level

Beautiful, but depressing. Dont play this in front of your missus, especially if youre going through a bad patch. It is a hang mans noose of an album. Jeff. CHEER UP SON

5.0 out of 5 stars delivers a beautiful YES style album, 19 Nov. 2015

This review is from: Now We Have Light (Audio CD)
It is the most delightful album I have heard in years. If I was to say you will rarely have "spine tingling" moments please don't be put off. The "guitar solos" are banal but fit the album's jazzy "messiness". It's tighter than a Scotsman's wallet. This band aims to collectively work and, in its own right, delivers a beautiful YES style album. You don't need highlights with this work. just take it all in and enjoy the ride., It is pure and unadulterated "elevator" music a la Tangerine Dream and Yes. Put it on and spend your time around the house. Every now and again, you will perhaps say "wow that was good"

5.0 out of 5 stars The opening track would have sat comfortably in any New Romantic nightclub, 28 July 2014
I was devastated at Covenant's last album - it was truly dreadful and not worthy of their name. To me, they had "lost it" - but what a return to form! This is such a strong album I, quite literally, cannot stop playing it. The opening track would have sat comfortably in any New Romantic nightclub. "Ignorance And Bliss" gets the "electrogoth" album cooking, but then KERPOW - "Last Dance". Greatest ever Covenant track? You decide. I'm too busy looking like a zombie because it knocks me out and if I dribble while I'm walking, then I have a good reason. The album overall??? The sound effects, the change in tempos and MOST importantly, that Electrogoth sound that I find irresistable is BACK! I will update this post as and when I can actually STOP playing "Last Dance" - Im hooked - The Gods are back on their throne!

I bought this, alongside OMD's "English Electric" and the Pet Shop Boys "Electric". This album comes a distant third to the other two. The first three tracks give a feeling that all could be well, but descends into a drab, bland affair, devoid of imagination. Saved by the guitar work more than anything else, it is embarrassing in places. Not least the single "Dreamer I know" where Strange sounds, well strange and his duet sounds like a pissed-up practice in a back room. Absolutely dreadful.

Started well, sank into oblivion. Typical Steve Strange. Disappointing!
