5.0 out of 5 stars Best book ever, especially for the young and curious, 6 May 2013
This is a fantastic book. I would recommend it to anyone. No photographs, only beautiful colourful illustrations. Covers everything from alabaster to space flight. Get it before old books like this get pulped or become expensive collectors items.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 29 Dec. 2010
Excellent book. Brilliant text and fantastic awe - inspiring pictures. Cannot recommend highly enough if you're a bird fan, even if you're not particularly into Birds of Prey. Also more coppers for the RSPB !

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as big as I'd expected, 25 July 2010
A good introduction to underground London but I had expected a longer and bigger book. Interesting bits like the hydraulic mains that provided power to the city before electricity but little on other items, like post - war bunkers for example. Good size for a boring wait in a dentists surgery or commuter train.

2.0 out of 5 stars A poor representation of Barry's work, 20 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Soundtracks (Audio CD)
Having bought the 'James Bond: The Gold Edition', whose tracks performed by the Prague Philharmonic and are predominantly Barry pieces, I had expected more from this CD. I am a great fan of Barry's work but the tracks on this CD simply do not have any 'oomph' to them. Some pieces sound a bit like the music played at downmarket supermarkets to dull the minds of their unfortunate customers. If you do wish to hear Barry at his best I would recommend the aforementioned 'James Bond' CD, which includes a lenghty booklet that is actually interesting, to me at least, and 'Themeology: The Best of John Barry'. One thing that is good about this CD however is the impressive artwork on the sleeve, which was one of reasons I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer Brilliance, 1 Sept. 2005
Shows the stupidness, crassness, and pretentiousness of modern 'News' programming in all its glory. Although News had gone all 'touchy - feely' since this series was first broadcast, and all 'e-mail in with your views (usually slow-witted), the satire is still virtually spot-on, especially if you remember the authorative 'News at Ten' and BBC 'Nine O'Clock News' of the 1990s. Watch out for 'This is Our War', the MTV and '999' skits, bullying vicars, the pool security attendant, a pre-Chatshow Alan Partridge, and Ted Maul. Regular train commuters should find the stuck train 'report' especially funny. Of course, many viewers may not see what the fuss is about. Never mind.
