1.0 out of 5 stars Clean your loo instead, 1 May 2016
Dire, absolutely dire. In place of a plot there's a reliance on CGI action scenes that are so fast as to be silly and redundant. Eddie Redmayne is wasted but nevertheless gives a dismal mumbled performance. One star is too many. It's about time amazon gave us a zero stars option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and well written, 14 May 2014
Excellent book. Well written, concise, incredibly informative and devoid of any waffle.

This is how tech books should be written.

If you want to read about Java 8's lambda expressions, this is the book to get. It thoroughly trounces the poor quality of O'Reilly's "Java 8 Lambdas".

3.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written and waffly, 14 May 2014
This review is from: Java 8 Lambdas (Paperback)
This book is very poorly written to the point of being annoying. Far too much waffle. Far too many exclamation marks!!! Far too much repetition.

"Java SE8 for the Really Impatient" does it much better: no waffle and the content is accurate and to the point.

(Thankfully O'Reilly's recent release "Java Performance The Definitive Guide" by Scott Oaks has partially restored my faith in the quality of O'Reilly books these days.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly bad, 4 Dec. 2011
Acronis True Image Home is appallingly bad software. Do not touch it with a barge pole. Aside from the clunky GUI and the inability to define and backup a "set of backups", it usually fails to even start a backup. As someone else has said, the versions have got worse.

I have just spent 30 minutes trying to get it to backup files. I spent that time repeatedly trying to get beyond an obscure popup dialog that said the backup could not be run and reported obscure error numbers. Acronis -- this is 2011, not the shoddy software days of the 1980s!

You can then send the error off to the so-called "knowledge base". Surprise, surprise, their knowledge base has not this error before.

I have encountered this behaviour over and over. I have absolutely no faith in the software to perform when I'd need it to i.e. in the event of a restore.

I'm going back to my Linux OS for doing the backups of my Windows OS by simple DVD-sized chunks of tarballs and partition images.

Bye bye Acronis. Never ever again.

Zero stars in reality.
