4.0 out of 5 stars better than expected, 4 July 2006
I just avoided this game thinking itd be a simple money maker but i picked it up for £4 and im very surprised with how good it is. Even on amateur mode is remarkably difficult for a fifa game.

There are several modes to choose from, im currently embarking on the mission mode where you have 50 matches to play and 50 objectives to reach ie score 3 goals, concede fewer than 2, score within the first 20 minutes etc etc.

Gives the game a good edge which other fifa games have lacked. I dont like Pro Evo but ive been told this is about as close as you can get to it. As i said, on amateur its tough. The pitches are huge and its quite hard to see which players are which because in the day matches, its easy to pick out the strips..but for the evening games, any strip appears black so its hard to pick your passes and as soon as you get into "their" half, you are closed down by what appears to be 17 men against your 11 so getting space in the middle is very hard. Scoring is a pain aswell as you have to be very accurate unlike the older versions of just pressing A in the direction of the goal and it hits the target. Accuracy is an issue, but also the agility of the keepers is off the scale so chances of a high scoring game are very low.

The AI is strong aswell and does a good job of keeping the ball and passing it about. One of the best fifa games ive played. Better than 06 in my opinion.

In all a very good game, massive improvements on previous Fifa efforts and im delighted i gave it a chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than expected, 22 Jun. 2006
When i first got this i didnt think i was going to like it, however it is actually very good. Im not normally a fan of cel shading but this comes over very much like a comic book from the moment the disc starts to spin.

The levels you play as spider-man are a little repetitive but then theres only so much you can do with any title. What i do like is how quickly you can cover distance and how spectacular you can take corners once you are proficient at it. Your basic goal is to swing around completing races against the likes of johnny storm to achieve medals, but also complete battle missions which involves kicking several guys into submission, then webbing them up for the police to take them away.

once you achieve a number of these goals, the next piece of story line is revealed on the other side of new york...so lots ot frantic web slinging goes on but it never gets tiresome as you always try to take the next corner better than the last.

As venom, you fight wolverine near the start as your tutorial boss which you will find yourself thinking....."deep end" and "thrown in at". Press L to suck people in to drain their lifeforce and replace yours.

One problem i do have is that its a little too easy even on the harder modes....and can be completed in 2 days with minimal playing time. Another fault i picked is that in one of the cut scenes, a test tube with the sandman is shown to the audience, but he makes no appearance which is upsetting since they went to great pains to show off this tube.

On a good note though, mixture of villians for you such as Electro, Rhino, Green Goblin and S.H.I.E.L.D.

Overall, an excellent game, just too short....how often do i say that!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE....SIMPLY TERRIBLE, 22 Jun. 2006
This is the least amount of fun you can have while you are still awake. Its such a basic concept and clearly no effort has gone into making this a decent game, its simply an attempt at cashing in on the film. NO originality at all. I rented it and played through 65% before getting VERY bored of the repeating action.

Play as Wolverine, Ice Man or Nightcrawler???? (who in all honesty ever wants to play as nightcrawler....hes a wimp. Wheres cyclops and colossus) hacking and slashing through mission after mission of beat the clock to disarm the bombs OR button mash till you hands hurt or you get bored of the stupid amounts of enemies coming at you with big sticks and guns.

Thats as complex as this game gets im affraid. Thats not even the worst thing....the camera is a nightmare!!! Its a 3rd person game, but the camera flies about constantly to give you a better view of you surroundings...but as the camera changes, so do the directional controls. So you find yourself running down corridors looking at your back, then the camera jumps into the next room as your still pressing forward, so you briefly see the characters face before he turns and retreats and while point the camera changes again and you about turn AGAIN...this is a repeating cycle so you find yourself flicking the analogue carefully so that they take baby steps into the next room.

If you have played x-men legends then this game is a country mile away from that. After the basic tutorial for each character, there isnt really a great deal more to this game other than run and mash the buttons.

As i said, not an ounce of originality to this game. Dont even waste your money if you see it in the bargain bin for £6 coz you will still feel cheated. I only hope my pain and misery have helped you from making a serious error if you werent sure whether or not to get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Quality, 29 May 2006
I remember watching this every sunday when i was younger. This is THE thing that taught me how to play long balls and head correctly and most importantly, the Zidane turn. I missed the week they taught you how to play as a forward....so i blame that for my lack of attacking play (im now a centre half...)

Its a brilliant collection. Giggs is quite quiet but he has Booby Charlton and another coach alongside so your not dependent on Giggs' people skills. They tell you how to do it, then he shows you the correct technique.

I loved it so watched it religiously for months on end. Im sure I still have it taped somewhere. Its a bit simple for adults but kids will be hooked. Everything you need to know about playing the basic game. Not a great deal of fancy tricks, more of a beginners guide...but you get the basics right and your sorted for life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but too short, 4 Jan. 2006
It looks stunning....easily one of the best on the cube but its just too short.
It only takes a couple of hours to complete, at which point you are given online codes to unlock different things...and have to do-over some of yout levels to amass 250,000 points to get an alternate ending.
As Jack, you run around wielding a number of differnt guns...but spend more time looking for spears to light on fire as they inflict greater damage...you dont have a life bar, you just have to avoid being hit by someone/thing 3 times in quick succession.
As kong...it gets fun. It takes a different route to the film as the interview with Peter Jackson says, they were able to do more with the game. You can run along the walls, swing on trees, fight V-Rex, raptors and giant millipede things.
Graphically....its the best...no comparision to any other game. Replayability....not bad. Addictiveness is off the scale. It does make you jump when you are being chased and something falls behind you....not fun.
only 4 stars because it is far too short. Granted there is only so much spearing, chasing and crushing you can do...but the main problem i have is its too short and theres no difficulty setting so any gamer over 15 is probably going to ablt to finish this in 1 sitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 23 Sept. 2005
I have this on beta-max somewhere unwatchable. It is a superb addition to the he-man cellection as not a lot of people have actually seen this. It starts with man at arms setting up a rocket to go into space if memory serves for global positioning or something equally irrelevant. Anyway, orko flies inside it to have a look when the rocket takes off...looses control and boosts off into the distance.
He turns up on earth at xmas time and meets these 2 kids who introduce him to giving, sharing, caring etc (usual he-man morals). Anyway, man at arms manages to track down orko and transports him back to eternia with the 2 kids who start to teach every1 the meaning of xmas. The Horde find out about these children and send skeletor to capture them.
In all on of my fav ever episodes. Its only 47 mins long but well worth it. Introduced to a number of new characters who were created just for this special.
My only slight of it is that you dont see a great deal of he-man or she-ra in this "he-man and she-ra" special. You follow the children and what they are doing which is fair enough as skeletor by this point has made his transition from evil supervilain into comic relief character.
It really is well worth the effort and will be buyin this as soon as it comes out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent value, 30 Jan. 2005
I got this free when i bought my computer from PC World, its is a big drain on ink and is rediculously slow even in mono. However, the quality you get is prety good.
I had to print off my girlfriends dissertation which was 45 pages long with pictures thrown in every 2nd page or so....we got good quality paper so it looked phenonminal but it drained half my new colour cartridge id just bought and took about an hour to print off. So imagine my joy when she said she needed another 2 copies.
My roof fell in recently and of course, the paper feed acted like a slide for half the crap that fell down but ive been quoted a cheap repair price for it and ive had it for 3 years.
For the price, it gives you excellent quality, and if you can get a place that does epson refills your laughing. Deffo reccomend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic, but near flawless., 14 Jan. 2005
Let me start off with the games main flaw. Its far too simple. You simply dash along through sewers, streets and the weapon x facility demolishing EVERYTHING that gets in your way till you reach your objective point. As your characters gain more experience, you get ability points to use making them stronger as the game progresses....so all i did was pick Wolverine, Storm, Ice Man and Jean Grey for every mission as they quickly became a very well rounded group and finished the game in days.
However....what a game it is!!!! Its hard to believe but this is a brilliant game...such a basic idea, decent storyline and amazing cut scenes to boot...but its simply outstanding. You even get to play as Professor X at one point. It really is brilliant to play. The best way to describe it is by saying it is a cross between Diablo (in that you level up your character and pick up objects to advance your characters abilities ie DNA regenerator, elemental deflectors etc which you give to forge so that he can use them for scrap metal in order to make stronger pieces for you) and the 2nd NES teenage mutant turtles game where you slashed your way to the end.
Each of the 15 characters have 4 special moves in the arsenal in addition to the basic punches and kicks. Basic attack, advanced attack, advanced defence...and once you reach a certain level, you unlock their x-ability which in wolverines case means when you use it, he will dash around at warp speed attacking every opponent before they can blink.
Awesome game.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story [DVD]
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story [DVD]

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but its not Zoolander good., 29 Oct. 2004
Went into the cinema to see this. Takes a while to get properly started is its main flaw. Stiller owns a chain of super gyms aimed at making the general public feel so bad about themselves that they come to the gym. Their opposition is a small gym called average joes (vince vaughn)which he aims to put out of business. Vaughns gym is going under as he doesnt like to charge his regulars and the only way to get out of debt is to enter into the national dodgeball association.
It is a very funny film in places but sometimes takes the jokes too far. What i found great was when Stiller introduces his team for the tournament. Blaze, Lazer....Blazer (who is the footballer from Mr Deeds who shouts 'No Daddy Noooooo').
its that low quality humour that you have to switch your brain off for. Between Patches O'Toole (Rip Torn) and Steve the Pirate this is a great film. Not the usual Stiller standard but its still very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, but not the best, 1 Oct. 2004
This review is from: Eddie Izzard: Glorious [DVD] (DVD)
This is worth it just for the mini movie at the start where Eddie pretends to be in a film entitled "Glorious" with sleaze...well, not violence as such but comedy-esque. Filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo if memory serves, this is certainly one of the better performances. "Some people like to live life dangerously, live life on the edge...i prefer to live life...on the lid."
His routine is based on the Bible going from the Old Testament, the new testament and the encore is the book of revalations. Sounds crap but honestly its so funny. He recounts how much easier life would have been for Achillies had he simply encased his heel in concrete, then placed that on a small hovercraft so he could still move about to fight the Trojans. If it sounds stupid, is coz it is, but honestly...it is very good, but nothing in my eyes will surpass unrepeatable.
BTW, make sure you ahve seen definite article before you see this as he refers back to the occasional thing from that.
