Another excellent album from the most underrated Americana singer-songwriter on the planet. If you want to know what is happening in contemporary America listen to McMurtry, his tales of life in the mid-West and beyond are most revealing - and it don't look all that good even though the resilience of the characters often shines through. This album is 'softer' musically than previous albums but all the better for that. Take a listen.

Really a class album with Carla's vocals and guitar and
Mick Taylor's stunning lead guitar work. The track 'Winter'
is the best slow lead guitar work I've ever heard (and I've
heard many), all 12 minutes of it. No idea why she never became
more popular. If you like rock'n'roll without the brashness then
get yourself a copy. Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great boots but....., 26 Aug. 2014
Great boots but far too narrow for my feet, I see why they are selling them cheap.
If you have narrow feet these are a real bargain, if your feet are anywhere wider
than a ballerinas then forget it. Five stars for quality and style but one star for the
sizing so sorry but only two stars

This is an excellent album. Country rock with a soulful singer and sharp band. Lyrics and sound are even more meaningful given that these guys live in the land of the midnight sun way up in the north of Sweden. They obviously love the music they play and it comes out in every track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant no question, 3 Oct. 2013

This is another excellent album from the underrated Israel Nash Gripka.
Here it comes. Drums and base to the fore with sometimes muted vocals back in the mix
along with a wide wash of guitar from Eric Swanson (on pedal steel) and the even more
underrated Joey McLellan. Just lie back and let the whole thing wash over you although
the sound may be a bit dense at times for some people. Shades of late sixties psychedelia,
the Verve at their best and echoes of west-coast rock are all in there.
And to think that this album celebrates Israel's roots back in the
central plains of Missouri. A wonderful journey right enough.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 28 Oct. 2007

This comes across mainly as a "boy's own" adventure tale gone wrong, although there is no denying Colin Berry's suffering while doing time in an Afghan prison. Perhaps if he had done his homework he would never have gone there in the first place, what did he expect? The book paints a very narrow and negative picture of Afghans and Afghanistan and the author appears to have very little empathy or sympathy for a people that have battled the odds against 30 years of war and conflict.
