My grand-daughter loves reading Roald Dahl books, so it was an obvious successful choice that I bought her the Roald Dahl CD Collection for her Christmas present this year. She was delighted and has already started to enjoy listening to them.
My daughter introduced me to this book of recipes, having returned from a spell in hospital. I am well enough to follow the healthy recipies and believe I have been helped by them, as I am recovering well.
Our enjoyment of the brilliant acting and enjoyable story was spoiled by the poor quality of the dvd. Indoor scenes were viewed through cloudy horizontal lines moving from top to bottom of the screen, and were slightly out of focus. The outdoor scenes were mostly ok. It reminded us of a tv item some time ago warning of illegal dvds - i.e.,that these are mostly visually poor!!!! Downton Abbey - Series 1 [DVD]
I was very disappointed in this version of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. Those who don't already know the story well will be unable to understand the overall story. This version consists of "set piece" scenes with very poor (sometimes no) continuity. Only the experienced, older actors brought Jane Austen's words to life; the younger ones (including the two principal actors) spoke them too rapidly, as though not knowing what they meant. Would the characters really have such untidy hair styles when going out to dine or visit? Would the Bennett family entertain Lady Catherine in their night-clothes? etc. etc. There is no incentive to have this version in one's DVD library so long as the previous two dramatisations are available.
