5.0 out of 5 stars A romp through British History, 4 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A rapid pace journey through British History, reminding you of what you learnt at school (or should have) and filling in the gaps where you didnt.

Humour as ever is subjective but broad enough to raise a smile from most people.

If you want a history that isnt dry and can be picked up and put down then this is worth your time and money.

This review is from: French Beret - Black (Toy)
This is a comedy french beret. If you need a comedy french beret then this is indeed one. I am not sure how educational it can be unless you just want to show someone want a french beret actually looks like and for some reason a picture wont do.

However the product arrive quickly, fitted everyones head and much amusement was had.

Can't fault it.

Hitman: Blood Money (PC DVD)
Hitman: Blood Money (PC DVD)

5.0 out of 5 stars This game can be murder (but not if running it correctly), 3 Oct. 2011
Assuming you have a machine that runs this game then this is in my opinion one of the most fun games ever made. I have come back to it half a dozen times.

You have to strategically plan your attack so not one for people that like their action fast and furious, but you will also need good reactions and plenty of patience especially on the harder levels.

The joy when killing off a target with a spectacularly placed "accident" is unbeatable. Whether dropping a chandelier on somones head or feeding them to the sharks, the game is inventive and finally reaches the height that the hitman series has promised.

The game has its own internal logic which could put some people off. Security guards that automatically take your disguises as read and dead bodies that cause little alarm but worth your time and effort.

And enjoy the end title scene.

And Then There Were None (BBC Radio 4 Dramatisation)
And Then There Were None (BBC Radio 4 Dramatisation)

4.0 out of 5 stars Audio Version - Radio 4 Dramatisation, 29 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A full cast recording of Christie's classic who dunnit.

The story moves along at pace and the characters are all individual enough to stand out even if a couple of times the recording isnt clear. I had to rewind to work out the first murder.

However it does everything else that it should, a good plot and a twist or to keeps both the listener and the characters knowing what is going on.

A good starting place, or a reasonable holiday listen.

Osborn: Evil Incarcerated
Osborn: Evil Incarcerated

2.0 out of 5 stars Osborn: Evil unspecified, 27 Sept. 2011

The story of what happens to Norman Osborn (The Green Goblin) after his fall from grace at the end of the Dark Reign storyline.

I brought the first issue of this as a comic and loved it especially the back up story from Warren Ellis, but missed the other issues. So raced to get the trade paperback when released. However I dont feel the story stands up to the remainder, whilst a murky tale can feature murky artwork it wasnt to my taste. Would have prefered to see some more of the support cast, or even a back up tale of each from the might Warren Ellis.

Unless this ends up being part of some larger story I cant recommend the purchase

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
Price: £1.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Buffy was better, 26 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A book thats title tells you pretty much what you need to know and if it will interest you. Abraham Lincoln's real life tied in with ficitional vampires. However whilst having a reasonably good knowledge of history, I think you need to know Abraham's life story in some detail to fully appreciate the tapestry that the author has put together, but didnt excite me enough to go an investigate more.

However the story isnt particularly scary as a vampire story, and is hampered by having to bring in the civil war.

Possibly one that works better for people with a knowledge of the period of history and loves vampires, which would be an interesting Venn Diagram.

In my opinion Kim Newmans AD Dracula books give a more interesting version bringing in both historical and fictional characters.

Answer Me This
Answer Me This
by Helen Zaltzman
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Answer me this. Which book should you buy?, 8 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Answer Me This (Paperback)
The book version of the popular podcast. (Download it now if you havent already)

On the podcast and indeed in the book the presenters Helen and Olly will answer (almost) any question sent in. Normally in a humerous way, this can range from origin of phrases to social ettiquette.

Would suggest that anyone that is considering the book listens to the free podcast, and if you like that will like the book.

If you dont like the podcast then dont both reading the book (obviously)

Where Did It All Go Right?: Growing Up Normal in the 70s
Where Did It All Go Right?: Growing Up Normal in the 70s
Price: £2.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Didnt go right enough., 5 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A holiday read picked because I've enjoyed the authors broadcasting on the radio and Podcasts.

However the book is sections of his teenage years diary but the diary of someone that had nothing major happen to them growing up. Like reading Anne Frank's diary but stopping before the invasion.

There is definitly a feeling of nostalgia for lost tv programs, films toy and sweet. And whilst recognising similar events in my own life but with different names isnt enough to make an interesting book.

However unless you have a specific reason to read this or you love Northampton (especially in 1983) then nothing more than an average read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funnier than the battle for stalingrad, 2 Sept. 2011

Like any stand up DVD this has to stand on the strength of its own material, and whilst there a plenty of extras, the main stand up portion is both funny and thought provoking.

Under the premise of wearing a toothbrush moustache, Richard investigages modern attitudes to racism and the rise of the BNP. However probably not ideal to show to anyone easily offended.

There are only two things that distracted me.

1. The recording appears to be infront of a very small audience and some of the jokes seem to only get a weak response.

2. Half way though the thought occured to me that Richard looked like a National Express Coach driver who had gone for a job in middle management, so tried to smarten himself up, but everyone knows that he wont get it. Its probably having grown up watching him that makes that seem worse.

However it is definitly the best stand up DVD about race issues presented by a coach driver lookalike that I have ever seen.

The Raw Shark Texts
The Raw Shark Texts
Price: £4.53

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharks only attack you when your wet,, 25 Aug. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Sean Lock's suggestion that sharks only attack you when your wet is no longer true.

The story of Eric's attempts to regain his memory lost lead into an adventure in language. However rather than just sit down and try and remember, his journey includes an unusal boat, a large shark and a cute scout. Difficult to give to much of the plot without giving it away but the book flows well, and also play cleverly with the layout and format of the text. My other half was especially impressed with the shark attack "action" on my Kindle version. (And will probably have the jaws theme in your head as you read parts of it)

The ending whilst not especially original wasn't the one that I was expected which is always welcome

Overall a clever bit of fiction and look forward to something more by the author.
