3.0 out of 5 stars Not really keyring sized, 24 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With the old 5p tax I've been looking for something that packs down to keyring size that I can put on my keys to get me out of jail free in those 'I just got to the till and realised I forgot to bring a bag... AGAIN' moments. This isn't it. Maybe it would go in a handbag, but not a pocket. It's not very easy to take out of the gorilla, and it isn't attached (meaning I would definitely put it down and forget to reinsert it. Overall not what I was looking for. Three stars though because the bag seems robust and it would do its job under different scrutiny

3.0 out of 5 stars Different to the series, half spoiler!, 12 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read these on the back of watching the series to date. So far I have read 3 1/2 books of the six I bought. The different story lines are quite refreshing, very engaging and have a few very nicely written moments. The action within the stories is also very well balanced, at times I found myself with something of an adrenaline rush reading it (helped by authors disregard for the health and well being of key characters)
Why three stars? Maybe I have been affected by watching the tv series first. One of the things I like about dexter is that it is easy to relate to. It has a grounding in real, every day life and touches on the feelings of isolation that lurk within everyone's subconscious (so when dexter's internal dialogue details his inability to relate to other people's behaviour, I can relate to this on a different scale)
*******SPOILER (slightly)***************
In one of the books everything starts to veer off in a supernatural direction. This is out of sync with everything I have seen in the series and with the tone of the first few books. I have to admit that it spoiled things for me. I was waiting for a 'dexter logical' explanation throughout the whole book, and when the finale got a bit 'Indiana Jones' I was just disappointing. It may just be me, but I like things to stay true to their themes and within their bounds. By adding this element of science fiction the product was cheapened in my eyes and now I find myself less engaged by the following novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly good film, 12 Sept. 2013

It's interesting how the psychology leading into a film works. Sometimes you watch a film, knowing it has been praised by critics, and what really spoils the film is the expectation that it will be great when in fact it is fairly average. Sometimes you watch a film that you've heard mixed reviews about, and the low expectation means you enjoy the film all the more.
I watched this on the back of some critical acclaim but with only moderate expectations. to begin with Christian Bale wasn't impressing me and within the first half hour I wondered if I was going to be able to stay focused to the end. I did. Effortlessly! the story builds beautifully, with clever misdirection and excellent character development. There is a well balanced measure of special effects that isn't overdone but makes the film a spectacle. Finally the finale... a clever "how did I not see that coming" that made the length of the film worth it (it is very long, but as I say in a good way)

5.0 out of 5 stars useless villains utility, 9 Sept. 2013
I bought this thinking I could use it to create the most impenetrable villainous sky base from which to assault the earth. Unfortunately at the first sign of the most spotty, irksome little pimple-faced secret agent... you guessed it... I was foiled!

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring!, 19 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am a gaming addict.... wow this is like going to AA
But really I have played almost every game I have owned to fruition, If nothing else just to see how it ends. I can rarely put them down and the idea that I wouldn't finish a game is nonsense to me. Assassins Creed 3 is the first game I have ever played that bored me so much I couldn't be bothered to play any more. It's such a mish mash of ideas that they think will hook you in that I really can't be bothered to finish it. The lead character is dull, the plot is boring and there are so many farming side quests I just felt the game design was stealing my life for no payoff. I really loved assassins creed 2. It's possibly one of the best games I've played. This is over ambitious tripe!

5.0 out of 5 stars OMFG, 23 Nov. 2011
This is an epic effort, all the stuff that got on your nerves in Oblivion has been dealt with. Oblivion got boring and samey after a while. Skyrim has huge depth, is visually stunning and my real life is a distant memory. I have minor gripes (like why don't trees blow in the wind and why don't you leave footprints in the snow) but they are almost unmentionably insignificant. I have had laggy moments on the PS3 but usually it is the console telling me that after 10 hours of working hard it needs a break. when I come back to the game a few hours later it is fine again.

2.0 out of 5 stars ruined by the save aspect, 16 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Dead Island (PS3) (Video Game)
I will echo what a lot of people are saying about the save bugs. I would be loving this game if I didn't wake up this morning to find that everything I did yesterday had been wiped. It is too frustrating to play through the same missions again and I have lost 7 levels of play and all my power ups and weapons. so it's going back on the shelf until they fix the issues.

1.0 out of 5 stars more than a star, seriously!!!!, 30 Mar. 2010
I love gaming and assume that most of the games I try had a reason for investment and development, for this reason I would never normally stop playing anything after five minutes. With sega superstar tennis It was abvious within one match that it should never have been given anybodies un'undivided attention or time of day.
I bought this game because I fancied something quirky that wasn't all about realistic physics engines that I could play with some friends. Something with the endless playabillity of classics like mariocart. Maybe a little humor and some cool little power up elements. Reading the articles other blind, deaf and numb reviewers had posted made me think this wouldn't be the stupendous waste of money, and however many game developers lives, that it was!
THE BAD
everything! the sound is like it popped out of a 1990's snes classic and spent five minutes in revamp, but doesn't fit the game, This is probably because the gameplay feels like it had about five minutes of developers time, those developers having been recovering sex addicts slightly distracted for those five minutes by the sudden access they had to unlimited free porn. The thing about classic games was that the playing had to be good to make up for the fact that the graphics practically resembled lego (The graphics in this incidentally look like they were made of lego origionally until someone planed the edges out in photoshop and slapped them all over an hd screen) The music will drive you mad after 30 seconds to the point that if you make it through a whole match without pressing mute you either have very effective ear defenders or a serious head injury about the spot where you tried to gauge your ear drum out with a spoon. The characters have no character. Apparently they are all unique because when you press a special button they all do different things which is one mildly interesting idea that loses it's novelty after five minutes because each one of them can only do one only slightly interesting special thing.... I'm bored and can't be bothered to say any more about the bad stuff because there is still alot, like the blocky menus and uninviting extras and..... ah whatever!
THE GOOD
bite me sega! don't sell us this pants!
