2.0 out of 5 stars Paul Temple fan, 2 Nov. 2013

I was disappointed that this was a single voice reading and not a dramatization. Amazon should make the different forms clear in their advertising.
The reading was good, but it's not the same as a full dramatization.

Effectively a live recording of the original Stratford East production of this highly original work. The script and cast are superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect gift for English language teachers. A wealth of good ideas, clearly explained and applied., 28 May 2013

Discover more about listening in EFL / ESL. The format of this book combines reference to current literature and many original, entertaining and practical ideas for application. There are some recordings available from the book's website but the majority refer to sound and video clips on other internet websites. The format also makes it very easy to reference specific sections of the text.
A serious book presented in clear accessible language.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for hard water areas, 22 Dec. 2010
I live in a hard water area so the Breville delivered a crunchy lump of calcium along with the hot water. I bought a tea strainer to catch the calcium lump which solved the problem for a while. Now the appliance has stopped working entirely. The instructions were non-existent and online customer service is very poor. It's a good idea but it doesn't really work.

The Third Man: Special Edition [DVD] [1949]
The Third Man: Special Edition [DVD] [1949]
Dvd ~ Orson Welles

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting sideline, 5 Dec. 2010
I can't add to the superlatives from other reviewers. I have watched this film more than 60 times and it still thrills.
An interesting sideline for those, like me, who work in the EFL industry, can be found in the Wilfred Hyde White character, mr Crabbins. Cultural organizations such as the British Council had their origins in post-war occupied Europe. Greene reflects the poorly organized attempts at cultural re-education seen in the slide of the rhiniceros and also the condescending approach to Holly Martens, asking him to speak about "The Crisis of Conscience in the Modern American Novel". I have done hundred of talks like this to different British Council audiences around the world. Greene's depiction of the poorly prepared lecture and the nature of the audience are thoroughly authentic!

1.0 out of 5 stars Calcium granules in coffee, 12 Nov. 2010
Breville VKJ142 Hot Cup
Initially worked well and I congratulated myself on my contribution to reducing global warming, but soon noticed every cup contained granules of calcium. Though product might need descaling (strange for a brand new product) phoned Breville but received unhelpful advice. Of course, descaling was not mentioned in the minimal instructions. Bought tea strainer to catch granules before they entered the cup. Now, product has given up the ghost. May become landfill when I go to the tip. My apologies to the environment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a single wasted moment, 31 May 2010
This review is from: 12 Angry Men [DVD] [1957] (DVD)
Twelve Angry Men creates and holds its tension because there is not a single wasted moment, camera shot, facial expression, gesture or spoken line. A noted film critic said the "Most films are twenty mintes too long." and we can see the truth of this in so many films, but watch Twelve Angry Men. Is there a single minute you could lose without damaging the whole?
