All the rave reviews likening this to a cross between Douglas Adams and Banks, I thought wow...sadly its banal silliness with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The alleged humour, well it just just that, how anyone could mix up this book with Adams originals is beyond me, and Banks? you must be kidding. Mostly Harmless, no, mostly rubbish, Yes

3.0 out of 5 stars OK-ish, 5 April 2017

The good bit is its not just more of the same from book one, too many authors who enjoy a success just churn out another book same old same old and this is a stand alone story with a fleeting link to "Angry Planet" (which I really enjoyed by the way). However this book was unsatisfying as not much happens with the central AI character and the "other" storyline is never fully explored or explained and I found that this was the real interest of the story, not the AI (trying to not add spoilers here). So its ok-ish but a bit bland and for me nowhere near as good as "Angry Planet".

3.0 out of 5 stars Three books same plot, 17 Feb. 2017

This is a three book series, the first book I really enjoyed so got books two and three, sadly the basic plot is just repeated in each book with a bit of a twist, but frankly not much..how many times (actually 3 (3 books see)) can an abducted earth woman save the day, sing wonderfully and befriend an AI and save the day..again the answer is 3!

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened to the ending?, 17 Feb. 2017

Was really enjoying this book until the end, I do not know if the author just got fed up or was onto something else but 98% of the book had lots of detail, characters plots etc and then suddenly within a couple of pages its all wrapped up, glibly and ignoring many of the earlier strands, a real let down

I have really enjoyed the Lazarus war series and this is an excellent novella within the same setting and a nice addition to the universe.

2.0 out of 5 stars Way too obscure, 5 Dec. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Tried it based on the glowing reviews and whilst I finished it I was left wondering what all the fuss was about. Having been brought up on the like of Asimov, Clark etc and more recently Banks (RIP), Reynolds, Asher an Morgan I was hoping for a new author to enjoy but frankly found it tedious and confusing. Whilst I appreciate that readers have to think for themselves way too much was unexplained and way too obscure for my liking. The author could at least have put some meat on the bones about the cultures and factions and the mechanics of the undead advisor; plus what exactly were they attacking???...oddly I enjoyed some of the "asides" in form of memos and the ship names (was this a nod to Banks..I hope so) but finally the plot was interesting but for me just to hard to follow...perhaps I am too literal but this ones not what I would rate

The Baba Yaga (Weird Space Book 3)
The Baba Yaga (Weird Space Book 3)

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Third Installment., 15 Jun. 2016

The Weird Space series is a slow burn, each the the first 3 novels a standalone piece but with the relatively lose thread of the Weird woven into the story lines. Interesting characters in each book and it will be interesting to see how it comes together in future books (assuming thats the intention). Anyway the protagonists are always interesting, villains have their moments and the scifi spaceoperaish and the pace romps along well, all in all enjoyable. In fact I had read book two first some time ago, saw this was published, went back and got book one, re-read book two and then onto book three and it was worth the effort. It also demonstrated that actually you can read out of sequence with this series and not get lost, the idea that each book is pretty standalone really works

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool, 15 Jun. 2016

Great bit of kit, lithium battery handles the workload really well and the absence of a lead makes working much easier. I have quite a range of the Bosch power4all tools and they so far have never disappointed. My only gripe is that the battery for this unit is different than for the other tools I have in the power4all range. I can sort of understand that it is designed to fit the shape of the tool but it is a bit irksome that it then needs its own charger. Just to add to this irritation I recently purchased a Bosch hedgetrimmer 18v power4all and discovered that the battery for this is a different shape the to earlier units, At least it still fits the charger of the rest of the 18v lithium range but you need to look carefully now when purchasing
