5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 9 May 2011
This review is from: The Rokstarr Collection (Audio CD)
This is by far one of my favourite albums. It has some banging tunes (obvious ones being break your heart, dirty picture, dynamite) others being Forever Love and loads of others. Some are more upbeat than others which gives the whole album a good balance. If you like any of his singles, i suggest you buy this album, you wont be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but going backwards maybe?, 9 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Charice (Audio CD)
i fell in love with Pyramid when i heard it. however Pyramid is by far the strongest track on the album. i felt it was going backwards though. most of the songs are very 1980's pop sounding by the way she sings. its good but dont expect any of the songs on here to exceed Pyramid

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different but amazing album from Kanye, 16 Sept. 2010
This is the first album of Kanye's i have ever bought. The reason being is the constant use of swearing on his albums. So when i saw this album that had no parental advisory on it, i got so excited i hastily grabbed it off the shelf, paid for it at the checkout, and got home as quickly as possible to listen to it. And i was not disappointed by it in any way.

I had not heard any of the songs on this album before listening to the album, so had no idea what it would be like. And i can say i was not expecting what was flowing to my ears. Even Kanye himself has said this is a pop CD, so i will not deny, that even though it comes up as hip hop and rap, it is more electro/pop with an R&B tint to it.

1. Say you will. 9/10. This a great song to start the album with. Its a reasonably slowish song with quite relaxing beats to it, and Kanye uses auto tuning pratically all the way through this song, which gives it a surprisingly nice effect. Only thing i dislike about this song is the fact its over 6 minutes long, and three minutes of that has no singing on it and the same repeated tune and on the first listen will have you thinking "when is this song going to finish??...", but after the first listen, this doesn't seem so long.

2. Welcome to Heatbreak (ft. Kid Cudi.) 9/10. This follows on nicely from the first song. With its stronger beats, and faster tempo. Kanye still uses auto tuning for this one, but again it works well, and Kid Cudi's part really adds to the song. Lyrically wise, when listening to this song, you get the feel that he really means what he says, and has a deep feeling of dissatisfaction with his life, which is quite big coming from Kanye.

3. Heartless. 10/10. A great single. Tune to this is quite simple, and doesn't have strong beats to it, so you focus on the lyrics more. The way he sings it, he sounds partly angry partly sad, which gives the song a great feel to it. He uses auto tuning on the first couple of seconds of the song, then goes into a sort-of-rap for the verses. Chorus is very catchy, lyrically and tune wise. A great song.

4. Amazing (ft. Young Zeezy). 9/10. Quite a catchy song where Kanye goes on about how amazing he is (he couldn't resist lol). Tune wise this song fits into the album, but lyrically wise, in my opinion seems a bit out of place as all the other songs are about heartbreak and love. The Chorus is basically made up of him saying "its amazing, so amazing" but somehow i didn't find it annoying. The background tune is a piano playing and the sound of wood clapping together (i know there is a name for it but i cant remember it lol) Young Jeezy's part doesn't seem out of place at all. Infact i think his part compliments the song. But whats with the bit where theres a girl screaming before Young Jeezy comes in??? It's the only bit i really dont like about the song as it sounds a bit weird.

5. Love Lockdown. 10/10. One of my personal favourites. Starts out with just drums (they are not ordinary drums but i forgot the name of them)and then Kanye enters and continues with just drums for a few seconds. Then the piano. The comes the awesome chorus with the african-like drums. Lyrics are catchy and the tune is too. In my opinion this song has the "have to listen to again and again" factor. Again this has a simple but extremely effective tune to this song. Not just beats, but proper drums in this song. One of THE best songs if not THE best.

6. Paranoid (ft. Mr. Hudson). 10/10. Has a very 80's electro pop sound to it and Mr. Hudsons voice only adds to the 80's feel of the song, so i would say this is a very good colaboration of these two artists. Lyrics are good but not AS catchy as the other songs, but still catchy. The song is basically about his girl being paranoid, for example checking his cell phone all the time. This song doesn't feel out of place at all, but even though no two songs sound the same on this album, this one is quite a bit different from the others, but manages to fit right into the album.

7. Robocop. 9/10. I found this song quite amusing. It has a very cheerful sound to it and compared to previous songs, which are quite serious, this one is definitely not serious as you can hear Kanye smiling and being close to laughing on this track which makes you almost smile yourself when listening to it. Lyrics are basically about his girl being like a "robocop" because he "told her some things she dont need to know, and she never let it go" (quoting from the song.)And the chorus goes onto say "ok, ok ok, you need to stop it now, you need to drop it now." All in all, i love this song.

8. Street Lights. 9/10. Not a huge amount of lyrics to this song, he just repeats the chorus and there isn't really a verse as such. Also, instead of using auto tuning on this song, he uses distortion (i know theres a name for it, and i think its one Kanye made himself, but again, cant remember the name lol) all the way through the song, which if your feeling in an irritable mood, or "need relaxing music" mood, you might be inclined to skip past this song, as the distortion has a bit of a "grinding" sound to it. Not the best song on the album, but it's still a good song.

9. Bad News. 10/10. One of my favourite songs. Has a very sad tone to it, but has a fast beat to it, so it won't leave you feeling hopelessly depressed after listening to it. But will also fit your mood if you're in a sad mood. With violins playing for a minute or so with no singing, and piano in the background through most of the song, and Kanye's voice sounding sad and heart broken, you really get the feel of the lyrics and song, but there is a constant fast beat through the whole song which makes it a great song.

10. See You In My Nightmares (ft. Lil Wayne). 9/10. Basically talking of a girl he once loved, and then fell out of love with for reasons not paticularly specified, and who was once a fairytale to him, to him thinking he might see her in his nightmares. Lil Waynes part adds to this song quite a lot, but i dont like it at one point the way he sings, it's hard to explain it, but i just didn't think it sounded all that great. The tune, lyrics, and the way they both sing in this song, gives the song quite a strong feel to it of love gone sour, and again, making it sound like he really means the lyrics. A good song.

11. Coldest Winter. 10/10. Another song which has a sad feel about it with the chorus being "Goodbye my friend. Will i ever love again?" and every sentence of the chorus being repeated after he says it. Drums are the main tune to this song. This song has a wintery feel to it, like the name suggests. A good song.

12. Pinocchio Story (Freestyle Live From Singapore. 8/10. Being a proper live song, the quality is not great on this song, and i am usually inclined to skip it for this reason. A song about fame. He talks about wanting to know what real life is like (in other words, life without fame). If it was a studio song, i would probably give it 10/10 but since at some points you can't really make out the tune or what he's saying, i only give it 8/10.

Overall review of album: 10/10. Has a varied selection of songs, and this is a good change for Kanye West. Most albums i listen to for the first time, i feel a bit empty after listening to them, feeling that there is something missing, or it was nothing all that special. But i had no such feelings after a first listen to this album. I loved it and felt that it couldn't have been better if he tried. Some Kanye West fans may be disappointed if they were looking for a rap album, but Kanye is trying new things out all the time, and as far as this album goes, he's succeeded.

Definitely worth a listen and will appeal to most people who are pop/R&B/electro fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth a listen, 5 Sept. 2010
I bought this album based on just one song: Super nova. My favourite songs are super nova, white lies, knew we were trouble, straight no chaser, everything is broken, learning to live, and there will be tears. however i was a little disappointed with some of the others. Instant messaging is just too slow and has no life to it compared to the other songs on the album. Lift Your Head and Time are very similar and the tune from the chorus's can even be mixed up together without noticing they are from different songs, and i reckon he just couldn't think of any more tunes, or wanted to just hurry up and finish the album.(but i have to admit, they're still good songs.)However i was very disappointed in Stiff Upper Lip, Anyone But Him, and Central Park. I admit i loved the tunes, but was really annoyed by the fact with the constant use of the "f" word. Don't know what possessed him to use it so much, maybe the influence of Mr.Kanye West? But i just found it irritating because i dont like listening to swearing in my music. Apart from that, liked the album. Worth a listen.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Mobile Phone on Vodafone PAYG

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, 19 Jun. 2010
I decided to wait a month before reviewing this, since so many people have complained about it. So here goes: I bought this phone even after seeing all the bad reviews and guess what? I love this phone! The screen is crisp, and responsive. Speaker quality is better than some stereos or any other music phones i've heard. Camera takes very good pictures, though i agree with other reviewers that the quality isn't as good with dark rooms, etc. I will admit, the battery doesn't last nearly as long as it says on paper but it's not as bad as some reviewers have said. My battery lasts 2 days, more if its on standby. Comes with an 8GB memory card, GPS is already installed(which is very cool i will say)and you can download limitless amount of gimicky (but fun) app's, games, themes, ringtones, and many other things, from the OVI store.

But, you may ask, why only 4 stars if it's so great? Well after 2 weeks of having it, i set my alarm before going to bed (as usual), woke up in the morning wondering why my alarm hadn't gone off, looked at my phone, and it was frozen on the Nokia start up screen. I tried switching it off, nothing happened. Took the battery out, turned it back on, and then it froze again when it got the the start-up screen. I tried this every day for a week, and same thing happened again and again, so i gave up, left it, and carried on using my old phone . My brothers Samsung did EXACTLY the same thing, in exactly the same way, which is a bit of a coincidence (its a completely different type of phone too). Anyway, i found out the only way to fix it is to get it reset by Nokia. I switched it on again to try it once more before contacting Nokia, and what happens? It actually switches on and acts as if nothing happened. But then the next day, it did the same thing when i switched it off and then on again. Thankfully it did eventually turn on and it was OK after that. Though it's not been quite right ever since. (slower than it used to be, not as responsive, doesnt always load things properly. It never used to be like that before it broke.)

Another thing i will mention is, i've found that when I'm surfing the internet or browsing through the OVI store, it exits internet/OVI store for no apparent reason. It's done this ever since I got it. Its not a serious flaw/bug but it's just annoying, and OVI store and internet are the only things it does this with.

I am going to take some of the reviewers advice and update the software. There are some "1 star" reviews, but ignore them, most of the reviewers that write bad reviews about it, dont want any other phone but the iphone to be good, and they want to find fault with it. They completely ignore the fact that this is one of the best smart phones around for its price. This is a brilliant phone. It just has some bad bugs that CAN be sorted out. Once i have updated the software, i will update this review to tell you what happened, and if it improves it.

This review is from: Straight No Chaser (Audio CD)
i bought this album and waited anxiously for it in the post but little did i know that three of the songs have the F word constantly thrown at you. I don't mind but there's NO PARENTAL GUIDENCE STICKER. I thought i better say this as a warning cos no where does it warn you of the swearing. But otherwise I love this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow wow wow wow, 22 Aug. 2009
I did not expect this album to be THIS good. I only saw an advert for their debut album, and thought "hmmmm they sound good." so i went out and bought it without hearing any of their songs. I was a little worried about it when i went to take it off the shelf and buy it and almost got Jason Mraz instead, but now i have listened to it, i have NO regrets what so ever. Lead singer has, and unusual but brilliant voice. Hope to see em live some day as everyone seems to say their even better live.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!, 23 July 2009
The zen is absolutely brilliant. Good sreen, good sound, light, and small. All the things you need in a good MP4 player. I would reccommend the 4 GB. It's enough to fit 2000 songs on it, or loads of movies on it.

Would i reccommend it?

100% YES!
